With the Suits, no one knows anything about any of their neighbours, it's all shrug-and-dunno-mate if anyone asks. TV Licensing come around from time to time, seem to meet some of the scarier neighbours and have a bit of a fright and come back again after a couple of years.:rotfl:
I find the tried and trusted method of dealing with dodgy officialdom, census snoops etc is to open the door and ask 'Have you seen my teeth'? Then shut the door in their face while they are still wondering how to respond. :D

:rotfl: LMAO. We are especially wary of the subspecies Suitus Clipboardius who have to be closely-watched at all times. If you know your way around the labyrintine byways of the Towers, you can watch them without them knowing it. Many a time SG has rung me to say that there's something going on my way, or vice versa. Between a few of us, we can snoop on several adjacent streets.:p

Frankly, my neighbourhood is so interesting that it's a shame I have to go to work, I do miss out on some of the fun.

Here at the Towers it is customary to practise a kind of vacant stupidity when seeing People in Suits around asking questions.

Suits (male or female) seen in this block are usually bailiffs or something equally worrisome (CID are considerably scruffier when hanging out surveilling in their beanie hats and hoodies but SuperGran knows loads of them by sight whatever they are wearing. She just blanks them but then she's been working on her little old lady act for some years now).

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Thanks for your kind words everyone - we're still in shock and the pain is awful - currently having to go through the "firsts"; first coal fire without her sitting there hogging the heat, first work morning without her getting under my feet on the way out, first trip to see relatives who also loved her, first shopping trip not buying her a treat - you know how it goes. In house news we are really hoipng to exchange contracts this week and complete on 28th. It will be a whole new world of preps as I have no outside storage nor my beloved pantry so we're planning our prep stores :)

There's a large cupboard under the stairs which I am thinking of seconding, does anyone else use internal storage only for preps ie no outside walls for cooling and air circulation?

My pantry is the cupboard under the stairs, with narrow shelves along one side, and I've never had any problems (apart from overcrowding and untidiness!).

I have stock all over the house - on shelves, in cupboards, in containers, in a bed drawer... It's an old cottage with thick stone walls and keeping stuff cool is not an issue for me. I just keep products more susceptible to spoilage out of any direct sunlight. I actually avoid storage against outside walls as in my case it is more likely to get damp. The only other factor is keeping the more tempting food safe from Mr and Mrs Mouse and all the little mouses should they decide to pay a visit :rotfl:

i use cupboard understairs for all my non edible stores as the bright spark who built this house put boiler on inside of house not outside!!! we the only house in area that has this, also as heating on understairs cupboard heats up very much so ab no food can go in their, i put a rail up and hang clothes in it to dry. i had to buy a unitoff gumtree and paint it for storage for my prepping also vacant wardrobe in our bedroom is full to capacity, shed houses water, lemonade etc and kitchen cupboards are full also. xxx

Vanoonoo, look carefully at said cupboard, because if it's an older house, it might well have a small grille set in the floor for air circulation - ours (circa 1900) does and so have several other houses I've lived or stayed in. It vents directly into the underfloor foundation-y space & that area is more or less at a constant cool temperature & relatively dry. I keep my sewing machine under the stairs as well as the wine; it's the only place that damp & condensation don't build up. When we first came, the grille was covered by several layers of old lino & some ratty polypropylene carpet, which somewhat negated the beneficial effects, but if I weren't using that space as an office-come-sewing-space (well, DD1 has set up her machine there) it'd be set aside for food storage.

Really sorry to hear about your loss, too, and esmf73's dog's diagnosis. I wouldn't be without my pets & other companion animals for the world, but losing them is always a huge blow, even when you're expecting it.
