I've one kitten who brings in doves, another who brings in small birds, a grown up cat who regularly hunts sausages and chicken carcasses and a very pretty, fluffy kitten who seems to know where the discarded fish bits are....and she's regularly deposits them just behind the hall curtains. (there's a chap about 4 streets away who has a seafood van, I'm assuming she's learnt where he lives). Not the best of diets (considering DH is allergic to seafood/shellfish, potentially very messy) but they try and pull their weight bless them."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Lyn bless you. I know you wouldn't cook the dear boy. Anyway, you would never need to! You know far too much about the great outdoors for that to ever become a reality.0

We could spin our dogs' expelled hair for clothing huh? Or use it for laying nests for the chickens we acquire along the way. I'm sure you can make fuel out of dog poo too? Sure I've seen that.0

Yes my friend we would be OK I think and he certainly would be more use to us alive and kicking than potted. He has been known to get the odd rabbit that chanced its luck with him, and even once a pigeon (before anyone asks yes it was on the ground, he's talented but even he can't fly!) so we'll keep him intact . I do think though that a good dog would be an asset in a survival situation for lots of reasons other than hunting/herding, it would be a deterrent to those with bad intentions, it would alert you to intruders and on really cold nights would curl up and keep you warm, those for me would more than justify its existence, Cheers Lyn xxx.
FUDDLE I don't know if dog poo can be used for fuel but I do know for certain that long ago it was an integral part of tanning hides for making leather, Lyn x.0 -

very interesting reading the last few pages have been, i am 100 per cent sure if tshtf i would kill, skin, gut and cook almost anything ,i am also sure we would all adapt with a bit of teachings how to trap/fish etc...well we were originally hunter gatherers so we would all have to go back to the ways our anscestors were. today i felt quite earth motherish,in went my spuds, early carrots, scallions and onions and a silent prayer that blight wont take my spuds again. when i drive to my mum house shes in the country i pass so much road kill, a close friend of the family is a romany gypsy and yes he calls himself a gypsy so i not being rascist anyway he lives in a caravan in a farmers field and lives off the land grows his own veg etc but does go out and collect all the roadkill his favorite being hedgehog!!!!!! as my dad says theres a hat for every head! friend says its what he was brought up on along with rabbit, magpies, squirrel the list is endless. He could teach us if tshtf, he already has my son fishing with him and my sister learnt how to skin rabbits etc, he been with us for many years and its great to get another angle at the way we can live. he built like a tank and never been to a doctors or dentist its just his way,he very interesting tolisten to and is a wonderful teacher. well ive rambled on long enough away to get a nice bath as it was freezing in garden all day, have a lovely evening all and DOCKY.......RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

I don't see why not.
Cow dung (called gobar in Hindi) is used to produce burnable gas, called gobar gas.
Don't ask me how I know this (we're in anorak territory here :embarasse ), but 1 cubic foot of gas can be produced from 1 pound of cow dung.
Presumably, other dung can be used.0 -
