I have recently started 'prepping' not because I believe that we will face a zombie attack. Prepping is about being prepared for a worst case scenario, which will mean different things to different people. For some, they may live in a remote location and so in the event of storm/bad weather knowing that you will not have to venture out means that they will remain safe.
I live in a town, however, if it snows my road is not gritted and as I live on a hill I am unable to safely drive my car to the main roads. When the snow began to thaw all the pavements were covered in 2inches of ice. I did venture out, slipped and sprained my wrist and had some nasty bruises. Sorry for the ramble but my point is knowing that I have enough food stocked means that I will not need to leave the house, and can hopefully help out my neighbours.
Being prepared is about considering what your worse case scenario may be and making provisions for it. For some, it may be losing their job and so they may 'prep' by ensuring that they have enough savings to pay their mortgage/rent/bills/food until they find alternative employment.
This thread has given me the incentive to begin thinking and making plans for my worst case scenarios, so thank you.

I'm really pleased about that D, I don't think it was worth anyone getting upset or angry about, all quite silly really. :)

Thinking about this sort of thing always freaks me out! I have no stockpile and no skills! Basically if zombies arrived you wouldn't want me on your team and I would just cry and panic.

I live with my parents who don't want a stockpile of anything and there isn't really much free room. If I had space I think I would have 50 of everything - preparedness hoarder. I have 6 tins of tomato soup though!

I do have a mammoth foodstore but its my cushion against harder times..whatever they will be I have an assortment of preps for a few more dire emergencies but I do live close to London and within spitting distance of where the huge fire was during the riots last year,we could actually see it from the bedroom window

I love this thread ! Why do some people feel this inner compulsion to sneer? If they don't want to prep or get panicky then they don't need to read it - it's not compulsory ;)
My son has a Kelly Kettle as they go camping a lot and its awesome and I want one ..
My preps for tonight seem to involve eating Smarties and knitting meself a sock :D

So glad you said this - if I was prepping for a real end of the world scenario all I'd want is a quick and painless way to take me and me nearest and dearest out of the situation...I've read The Road....

That's how I feel...It's funny having to committ to signing up to paying gas/electric and put money aside each month, just as I start not to feel too bad I start worrying about the Bedroom tax, the changes in CT, rent increases and other benefits not mentioned that will be reduced/scrapped/replaced and whether the help I get now will still be there when I reapply and if so will I qualify?

And I'm off again with so many thoughts swimming around my mind. I know those who work have similar worries as they do wondering if they will have a job tomorrow.

I said on my blog and it can be taken the wrong way(I've tried to explain it is not depression)I don't know if I am bothered about a long life if there is lots of doom and gloom and its just an existence...

Of course we want a bit more so life is not just getting up filling many hours doing very little until we go to bed again but we would be happy with enough for an odd treat, reasonable health, to stay warm, eat reasonably well and can pay our bills but if that is difficult and going to be a worry I don't need it.

Ask me another day and I may have a different view, fire in my belly and am ready to fight and not give in...
