:) Snow has started circa 5 pm, very fine flakes but falling constantly and settling.

My folks live about 30 miles away and they had the snow all morning and spoke to someone who drives from my city to their town to work; the band of snow was halfway between and dry on the city side. Looks to me like it's settling in for the night.

If it stays these tiny flakes, it'll take an awful long time to accumulate any depth but if it gets heavier flakes which fall at the same rate, we could be in for quite a night.

Folks say their moggies are welded to the rad and the sofa, no interest in outside bar a high speed dash for a wee break. I keep peeping around the curtain to watch it, it's quite hypnotic.

    Hi all.
Here in the east we have only had about an inch so far, for which I am grateful as we had to call the water co out to a blockage causing waste to seep from the man hole at the back of the house. They were here within an hour and cleared it. Seems it was backing up from the neighbours and was all sorted in no time so that was a relief. Thought we were going to have a proper shtf moment. Have already swept the snow from the patio and path at the back so cats won't be so put off going out. I know its going to snow again but if I keep on top of it its easier and gives me fresh air and a little workout. I feel more relaxed knowing the drain problem is sorted and we have loads of candles, camping stove on standby and a good stash of chocolate. I couldn't face supermarket shopping before christmas and started doing it online. Thanks to the heads up regarding the weather I have booked weekly deliveries right into feb. Hopefully this will ensure we get and have what we need and we can stay snuggled up at home. We have loads of fresh yeast and flour so I can't think of anything to go out for at all. Maybe I might get around to some decluttering.
Hope everyone stays safe and warm.
Thanks 2T for the update and glad to see you are back. I enjoy your informative posts from corfu and was getting a bit concerned.

My husband has been trying to order a high back chair or recliner online as when his back is bad he has trouble sitting comfortably or getting up out of the chair we have now. Unfortunately we can't find any company who will deliver to Greece. I put an ad on the local facebook page asking if anyone had one to sell and gave our home phone number.

About ten minutes ago the phone rang and I thought it would be about a chair....it wasn't......it was a lady I went to see for an interview before Christmas. She had wanted freelancers to work for her but it was commission only and I turned it down. I can't work without a paid wage but I left some ideas with her and my CV. It seems she has looked it over and would like to discuss me working for her from home part time.

It has come out of the blue and I am quite stunned as things are very bad here in Greece work wise. I am going to see her tomorrow morning to see what she says and what she has in mind...better cross your fingers and all other things for me....

:) I agree. One of my pals is in the wilds n.w. of Aberdeen and they usually get lots. Expect his farm track is cut off, but he's used to that. Loves a bit of snow...it's in the Scottish DNA.

I shall be out tomorrow with my ruler seeing how much snow has fallen. SuperGran's car is wearing a wee white blankie..... aww, cute.

ETA; good luck with the interview 2tonsils and drive safe on those mountain roads.

It's been snowing for hours here in Alberta. When I came bacck from the dentist's there was four inches on the path. Well, at least it's warm enough to snow now.

Growing up we had a dog that would seek shelter in bad weather. He actually had a home on the street but a long sad history and the rest of the street looked after him. One night there was a scratch at the door. My mum said let the dog in. I replied that she was asleep next to me on the couch. So we opened the door and there he was. Looking cold and miserable. He walked in, ate our dog's dinner, drank a bowl of water, lay down and settled in. He got up four hours later, looked at the door, wagged his tail and left. He was a lovely dog despite his life on the streets. His human eventually married and the wife took the dog to the groomers and the vet. Turned out the grey, cement coloured dog was actually a Bearded Collie. He was just a character and died when he was hit my a motorbike. He had a routine of chasing the mailman's car when he left the area. Everyone knew the dog's routine and watched for him. The mailman punched the biker and held the dog as he was dying.

Gawd it sounds like a soppy Disney movie but it was a different world 40 years ago.

I find it oddly reassuring to see some wintry weather but I don't welcome snow - as pretty as it is. I certainly didn't welcome it when I had an unforgiving employer who expected you to make the journey no matter what. :(
Plus living out in the sticks I am glad I no longer have a lengthy heart stopping work commute and on occasion having to walk home for the last mile or so.
Imo the oddest media image yesterday was the pic of an overturned car with the caption 'traffic disruption'
  • arghh, dh has just gone to lean to shed to remove all liquids, some of which were in a large sturdy wooden box with a lid. There are very small vent holes at the bottom. The tops of several bottles have been nibbled right through, esp tonic water. A large container of olive oil has also been attacked but not entered. He is cleaning it out now and will line with wire mesh but we are going to have to put traps out again as I keep many kgs of flour in that lean to, although several feet off the ground. shtf will not just be coming from mankind but from the animal world
