All my family are either dead or in Wales (is that the same thing I ask myself? :D). Just kidding!
I could have gone to a friend's Christmas dinner but I feel a bit like the ghost of Christmas past at her massive family gatherings. So I'll be cooking up the full Christmas works for one. Pineapple has a greedy streak and doesn't stint herself!
It's not that bad for us singletons. We have full control of the remote, we can slob out, undo our tight bits and pass wind :rotfl:. And we don't have to be polite to anyone!

I love this time of year - yes even the tacky schmalzy bits. I have wonderful memories of childhood Christmasses at my grandparents in Livepool.. For an only child brought up in a cramped modern semi with bickering parents, the huge Victorian house was magical. It even had 3 kitchens/pantries for when the former occupiers had servants - ie for the butler, the maid etc. Plus I got to run around with all my long lost cousins. :j With three floors and a spooky cellar, there was plenty of space - and probably a ghost or two.
Small presents were left by the bed overnight but the main ones were left till after Christmas lunch when we would gather round the huge tree in the best lounge (yes we had two!) and my grandfather would give them out.
Lunch was a traditional affair - and it was always plentiful owing to the grandparents greengocer and butchers shops. We finished off with a Christmas pud set alight - containing an old sixpence or 'threepenny bit'.
After that the whisky (and whiskey) would be flowing, the playing cards would come out (we had Irish ancestry after all ;)) and the kids would run amok.

I suspect we might see some big changes in the next few months so let's appreciate what we have while we have it. At least we live in interesting times!
Have a good Christmas everyone and thoughts for anyone affected by the floods x

:) Hi Pineapple, one of the (deservedly) most popular and gregarious fellers I know told me very fondly about spending a Christmas all on his own in his remote and isolated home.

Knowing what a social butterfly he is, I started to commiserate and he started to laugh; he'd had a fanstastic time slobbing out and eating lush food (he's also fab cook, sorry ladies, he's spoken-for) and was sooo glad to have some downtime at home.

Not everyone who will be alone this Christmas will be sad about it. As SuperGran says, the great thing about living alone is that you can break wind whenever you please.:rotfl:She'll be ankle deep in small relatives for a few days then glad to get back to the Towers for some peace and quiet.

I shall be annoying my relatives and cuddling the puddytats. I'm taking my boots so me and Dad can walk in the woods, assuming it ever bliddy well stops raining.

In the new year I shall divert the chocolate spend into preptastic sorts of things. Have oodles of paracord but have my eye on a Kelly Kettle. Between apocalypses, I shall be using it on the allotment.

Have a lovely breaklet, whatever you're all doing and whoever you're doing it with. GQ xx

    I've been Money Tipped!
Happy Christmas! We have been prepping tonight ( the Christmas dinner) ;-) and Planning what to do with all the lovely leftovers. We have tight times coming ( thanks to the taxman) but for now I am truly thankful for all I have in my life! Family, friends including my online pals, a roof over my head and food a plenty! I am indeed rich! Wishing you all a peaceful happy and safe festive season!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Good Christmas , Solstice or whatever they decide to celebrate .

Have all my DDs home so happy as a clam or whatever the phrase is
    :j:j:j

DDs have gone out to see a panto so will take the chance to pack the Christmas stockings ready for tomorrow morning. We are all planning a trip to the country/ beach tomorrow so going to make up a couple of filled rolls each, small pork pie and small sausage rolls and a couple of flasks for tea and coffee.

If we get back around four or five ish will make a spicy lentil soup as first course while four bird roast, potatoes and parsnips are in the oven and take our time eating dinner. DDs planning to make Eton Mess and I got an award winning Christmas pud (A**i ).

I think next year could be "interesting" as in the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" . For the ordinary person unlike leaders, generals or princes who can advance their position in times of crisis - they just suffer loss, worry or harm.

    Hugs to all

    best wishes
