2T, you get small minded people no matter where you go in the world. Similar happened to us two weeks ago and the bloke would have been about ages with my dad! He hurled abuse at us, called us interlopers (we're actually from the area where we encountered him and he realised that as for both of us when angry or upset our accents revert). Thankfully the police were nearby and told the guy **** off or get arrested. I know its hard and upsetting but try and rise above it.

Greece is probably the most extreme case at the mo but I think it is going to get a lot worse everywhere. I don't believe the UK has seen anything yet.
Crime is going to go up too. Make sure your home is as secure as it can be. A colleague of mine had a habit of leaving the keys in the glass paned back door and they simply broke that bit of glass and let themselves in :(.
Nothing can be totally secure but burglars often go for the easiest pickings first.

Loving the 'grit fairy' we have one of those on our little lane - the lovely chap who lives next door to us always grits outside everyones door on bad morning before he sets off to work at silly o'clock in the morning so nobody slips on their way out, bless him. He was particularly vigilent a couple of winters ago as out of 8 houses, 3 of us we pregnant and 3 were elderly. We do have grit supplies ourselves but he always beats us to it although when we had bad snow DH did go out and help shovel together with lovely bloke from next door and the nice chap from the top house.

I know that it is and sadly many are starting to fall out amongst themselves and dividing instead of working as one but I do think there are still more decent people than bad. The trouble is they have the biggest mouths and are given the air time or space in the newspapers and the constant "Drip, Drip, Drip" means some believe it!

I still think(and I am not one for conspiracy theories generally)that we are not being told a lot of what is happening and it is coming out in little chunks so we won't panic. The politicians know and I suspect some in the media do too.

Our PM praises populations abroad when they come out and make their feelings known but if it happens here, our unrest is ignored or it is portrayed in a bad light.

2tonsils, what a horrible thing to happen - hoping it proves to be an isolated incident...

Of the lack of manners and tolerance is woeful and heart achingly bad for the recipients.
2T - I had a similar road rage incident, I was driving on a motorway junction at some lights before i joined another motorway and it was so bad I had to call the police and report the people as they were trying to drive me off the road! In the UK the police took this seriously thankfully but very scary. I was in theory in a car capable of leaving them for dust. But that is not safe and not sensible, and evasive manoeuvres to avoid being crashed were scary enough. I ended up hiding between 2 lorries until I could get off! The lorry driver also reporters to the police so I had independent back up to my claims!

4 house thefts here this month already!

No jewellery here, wish I could find out where Mum's wedding band went. I have a signet ring on, another which belonged to my Grandad who I never knew and a small kind of pearl necklace of Mum's which I wear and there is nothing else of value. And most things around the house are refurbished and old so they'll be disappointed.
