I was chatting to our kids last year about 'when-the-oil-runs-out' and said that we would start to mine the old rubbish pits, tips and other holes in the ground ...
It would be a cheaper chance to take even with the pollution devastation that will result ...Morning all.
May I have a flapjack, pls, Vanoonoo? And aren't they a highly-portable form of calories, sort of the perfect bug-out foodstuff? So tasty, so flat, so very [STRIKE]fatten[/STRIKE] er nourishing. I do like a flapjack.
Dippypud, for several years, I've looked at what we allow to go into landfill as a form of madness; steel, glass, copper, lead etc. And have been postulating within my family that we'll end up mining them in the future to get this stuff back again.
I'd only discussed this with immediate family and had gone far enough to think that if I were a businessperson wanting to make long term investments, I would be looking at sneakily buying a few landfill sites. Imagine my surprise when I flicked on R4 earlier this year and heard it being discussed in earnest!
Apparently it's perfectly feasible. Should we club together and buy one to share? We could call ourselves Midden Corp.:pEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Dippypud, I wasn't suggesting that you were racist at all, it was a general comment on several things I have read from a few posters, I can see where you thought your comparison was right, and I apologise because it did seem like I was atttacking you, but you can see where at least one other person thought this meant Hamas and Sinn Fein were terrorists turned politicians.

Hello! I have been lurking on this thread for a while picking up tips and ideas. For a while I have been worried about a SHTF scenario or hopefully a slightly less catastrophic event. I have been building up my food, candles, water isnt a problem as there is a spring outside my back door that was the water supply for the house for many years.(i have bottles too!) The house can be heated with wood and my cooker runs on bottled gas.I have sorted my every day carry items and packed a get home bag for the car. My problem is that I am doing this secretly! My partner thinks I am slightly mad and I have taken to hiding the extra items, food, prep stuff as I am sure he would seriously think I have lost the plot if he knew what I have stashed! LOL. Does anyone else have this problem? I have tried talking to him but he thinks we are better off than most as we live on a farm, have veg garden, means to provide power via a generator, have a means to hunt and protect ourselves! Anyway hello from me and I hope to find support on this thread where you dont think I am mad!!Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Actually if Greece comes out of the euro the official plan is to declare it on a Friday evening as the banks close. They will stay closed until all local accounts are converted to a new currency, however long it takes to do. You will not be able to use any Euros that you have to buy anything, as it will no longer be a valid currency. They will not take credit cards either in this situation should it happen and no ATM will have money in it. No shops will be open as they will not be allowed to trade until the tills are converted to the new currency as well. You will be left to survive on what you have or what you can barter for ......for as long as it takes to sort out the currency changeover. They cannot make you change any foreign currency deposits to the new currency though.Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

All the info on here should be treated as ' is-this-relevant-for-me', as all our circumstances are different ...
the link I posted was to a news site , so that people, if they wished, could find out more ...jackieglasgow wrote: »How is Hamas like Sinn Fein exactly? Could you please explain this comment?
I read this thread daily, and find it generally entertaining, but now and again some of the convert and overt racism and ignorance really winds me up and shocks me. Today is one of those days, really people, educate yourselves if you are going to comment on political matters, please. And not from other forum members, either.
and though I thank you for your apology, you were very cutting and that was not fair ...
Still, we shall draw a line under this little misunderstanding and be a little more tolerant of others who may not be as educated and worldlywise as you ... :cool:C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z # 40 spanner supervisor. No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.Only after the last tree has been cut down.
