"Closet" is another one of those :)

    And, closely related, is "Nightstand".

Also, I understand "cider" can refer to a non-alcoholic, sparkling apple drink.

Also, you can have hot apple cider, which, quite frankly, makes me glad the cider is non-alcoholic. :D

Ooh we're up to 1000 pages (might be even more for some people, I have my settings showing as many posts as poss before I have to move to a new page).
We will probably have to set up a new thread at some stage. How about starting it on June 24? We could call it prepping for the brave new world
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • I shall change my name to ALDOUS HUXLEY in celebration!
  • Over the years, my family have said goodbye to 3 cats, and countless goldfish and hamsters.

I don't know if I'll have another pet, once Buggalugs has gone.

Yes, a pet can be great company, but, when you live alone, they can complicate life.

A spur of the moment holiday is impossible, and even staying over at a friend's place for the weekend, has to be planned well in advance.

We'll be well over 40,000 posts by then. Amazing how this thread has stayed on the front page throughout. Although I do recall there were some people who were really antagonistic at first and complained to the moderators to try and get us shut down or moved to discussion time. I think the fact that the thread has proved so durable shows how people find it helpful. Even if we do meander around a bit we get back to what matters

Warm spiced cider is wonderful, whether for wassailing or for taking the chill off a summers evening.
Spiked with calvados (or the British equivalent) makes it even more magical.
Hot apple juice doesn't have the same appeal. Scrumpy has been the downfall of many an American student who didn't realise that it was an extreme form of "hard cider."

My settings are 20 posts per page, which I believe is the default, I was going to suggest a new thread to coincide with 40,000 posts (2000 pages) but I like the idea of June 24 and your title.
I'm very surprised we haven't been asked to move to a new thread earlier, it used to be a regular occurrence as the database struggled with longer threads (which were much shorter than this one)

    I'm just imagining Buggalugs thinking:

'I don't know if I'll have another servant, once Bob has gone.

If people agree that a new thread is called for, would you be prepared to organise it Nuatha? Reason I ask is that we have to drive 400 miles starting early on June 24 to collect DD 2 from uni/ transfer assorted "stuff" to next year's student house (and if experience is any guide do some heavy duty cleaning - of old and new house)
