:) Hey, if genetics gave you a cowlick, you have to do something with it. Plus the slight quiff really rocks it with the tinfoil hat, dontchaknow.

Anyone volunteering to help me with my washing up? I fear I may be gone for some time...........:rotfl:

Bob, maybe I will start to glow in the dark if I keep eating bananas!

I've never heard of a man called Hester.

I find Lidl veg is of better quality than Rose Waite's these days. Lidl seems to have shorter supply lines than some of the bigger supermarkets especially the one that has been in the news over the last year for all the wrong reasons. I'm not sure if it really does minimise food miles but it seems like it
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Not having read this entire thread  I am wondering what type of food preparedness is your preference?
My family stores large sealed cans of dried food for cooking. We also have a well stocked pantry of canned goods. Do you all do the same type of food storage?
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Home Bargains are stocking gas camping stoves, for £9-99.

The camp stove was one of the presents we gave our oldest daughter, along with a box of 12 butane canisters. It was twice that expensive from Amazon.

  • Hi MILA my stores are canned foods, things like beans, corned beef, tuna, fruit and vegetables, I keep a fair stock of powdered skimmed milk, some bags of flour and leavenings, lots of flavourings be that sauces, ketchups, herbs and spices etc. many, many tea bags ( can't imaging surviving anything without my cuppa), coffee, crisp breads and oatcakes, rice, pasta, lentils (no other beans except those I dry from home grown produce, because of the amount of fuel and difficulty of cooking dried beans in an emergency situation), sugar for preserving, vinegar and salt, home made jams, chutneys and pickles and I also have a dehydrator so that's used for home grown fruit and veg from the garden, allotment and hothouses. Water I store in the containers I've accumulated over the years, usually the 5 litre ones that the vinegar for preserving comes in. I also carry lots of soap, shower gel, shampoo, some body/hand lotions, toothpaste, meds, disinfectants, loo rolls and candles/tealights, I rotate stocks and use up and replace any that come to their best before date. The other thing I ALWAYS carry is a good supply of chocolate in various forms, to cheer us up and also to use as barter goods if any situation went on for a long period of time.

I had the prepper's nightmare the other day when I was down to my last loo roll (nearly used up!) I do have at least three dozen packed away somewhere in a moving box!

I ended up dashing to the nearby shop and getting 16 rolls of Nicky loo roll for £2.99 - phew.

Because I knew I was moving I have been trying to use up the shampoo, shower gels etc and can't buy a lot more till I have proper built in storage.

I have decided that even if I can't unpack and store away an entire box of whatever I can at least label everything that is in the box, try to pack two lots into one and save the empty boxes and paper for dd and sil for when they move.

Can't wait for the kitchen and bathroom to be replaced with some storage.
