Oh dear thriftwizard... all that beautiful rendering. That was catty sorry. I would hate for anyone to have their home damaged but when people pay millions for house then knock it down to put up some malibu-esk dwelling in it place, costing another million or so, my sympathy can't reach Glenridding levels. Gluttony isn't something that can attract sympathy I expect.

    Keep me in loop thriftwizard.

An awful lot of them are exclusive holiday lets, Fuddle, and many of the rest are just holiday homes for the footy managers, rock stars etc. who buy my neighbour's paintings. So not a lot of real damage there. But some are main residences, for the young "unofficial wives" & families of some of the mysterious gentlemen from Eastern parts with flinty eyes, lots of contacts and gold-lined wallets, who a friend has nannied for.

I doubt anyone local is going to feel sorry for them, but she's mentioned to me that some of these girls are very, very young, (around 20, with 4 kids already, for example) totally dependent and stranded in a foreign land. No matter how much gold around their necks, it's got to be scary for them.

The two worst storms we've had up here - one blew out the loft hatch as well as the skylight which landed in the back garden... and the other one had thunder & lightning that melted my phone and my Sky box. I empathise ladies!

I think I discovered where my prepping habits come from. My grandmother went on a world cruise may years ago and knowing how expensive medication would be on the cruise she took plenty along with her. She was caught by the crew when queues of people getting free painkillers etc were queuing outside her door. She was told by the captain in no uncertain terms that she was depriving the ships doctor of his revenues and wages and would be dumped un-ceremonially at the next port if she continued. The next port was Fiji where a family friend was head of the United Nations for the whole of the Pacific. There was a planned royal visit with the Queen and Prince Philip due a few days later and the local UN head asked my grandparents to stand in for the Royal couple. So my grand parents did the inspection of the army, with their duty frees, and had dinner at the Government House so everyone knew what they had to do. The ships crew and passengers looked on in amazement, wondering who these people were to be selected. On return to the ship they had been upgraded to the Royal Suite.

OH has found the kitchen timer! :j :j :j :j

It had fallen off the fridge door (it's magnetic), and got caught on the Ikea shelving between two boxes of anti-calc tablets!

So no wonder I couldn't remember where I'd put it, because I had simply put it back in the right place IYSWIM.

My loft hatch had a wander again ... I'm going to get bolts installed later this year, for sure. Holding on to doors *tight* when I have to open them, and very glad I don't have to go out anywhere - if a loose tile heads your way, its goodnight Vienna :(

Otherwise, am having much joy attending to the aloe vera plants :):):)

And I have a little aerosol deodorant on order to carry in my handbag, as we all discussed a few weeks ago :D

Is anyone else worn out? The weather has been tiring today, no sparkle, that and the shenanigans last night and today. A few people have been doing running repairs in the village, usually involving plastic sheeting. I did a quick trial run making two sausages filled with damp sand, luckily had half a bag. Only used cheap lining fabric and was glad I had because I don`t need to do any fancy sausage, I did start making a right angled triangle shaped one, ended up just tying both ends. So 12"width, sew into a tube with the waterproof fabric, sew one end, tie the other. I will fill with damp sand because it conforms. Glad I did a trial run. Such a palaver though. Am happy to leave the carpet pulled back as long as needed, to be sure

Looks like pretty strong winds again tonight, doh, I would wear ear plugs but they irritate my ears.

Greenbee, pilates, must be the best system ever for core strength

:) It's been an interesting day, lots of calls about trees down, not to mention fencing.

Folks, if you have a tree near you which is dead, damaged, diseased or dying, it's a good idea to report it or sort it before the gales of winter.

Weather's rough here, has been all day. Glad I'm nowhere near the coast, some of those pictures give me the willies.

Stay safe, lovely peeps, stay safe.

Where I'm living now - I am very conscious (I think many of us are) about the need to keep up a certain amount of people going to any activity that interests us (eg fitness classes) and there is a noticeable amount of conscious activity to keep these facilities going.

Hence that's one of the reasons I try not to let the weather put me off going to anything I've decided to go to. It does put me off walk type activities sometimes (particularly when I know/suspect its yet another footpath that hasn't been very well "got together" and so I'd be likely to find its very muddy). But I try not to miss out on indoor activities.

So I'm not letting the gales put me off and telling myself "If you let the weather put you off when you live somewhere like this - then you would miss out on awful lot of activities".

    *************

...and yes...I did come over with a spate of feeling very weary (for no good reason I could see) yesterday afternoon. Whether it had been down to extra energy getting used to battle my way through the gales coming home I don't know - I did carry on doing so (despite someone stopping me to comment on just how bad it was further along my way). Didn't have a lot of option I felt - as I had to get home:rotfl:. I am noticing a lot of comments across those bits of the Internet I frequent (eg local Facebook pages) about people being very fed-up with all this bad weather by now...

Right...must study the Internet for ways to fasten modern scarves over the head. I'm still digging my heels in about not wearing those pull-on woollen hats that look ridiculous on me (having counted heads as to how many were wearing ones like that back in my home area on recent visit - and it was very very few and only those that they actually suit at that). So - now contemplating working out my own way round "hate them/wont wear them" and what else to do instead. Wonders what those of my ancestors that were Scottish did.....

    ************

I echo the thought of being careful about trees. One that had been in situ some time has come a cropper recently - but I wasn't around at the time it could have felled me personally in the process thankfully. There was the possibility it could have been "one dead or injured Money" if I had been in the "wrong place at the wrong time".
