I've often thought about the inconsistancies of airport security.
A friend flew from London to Manchester for a meeting and attempted to return the same day by the same airline. No ID required on the way out, refused boarding on the return as he didn't have his passport. He did have a photo driving license and a military ID (which matched the uniform he was wearing) among other official government ID.
The airline in question requires photo ID and provides a long list of what its supposed to find acceptable, driving license and military ID are on that list - but the jobsworths at the airport insisted on passports, despite being shown their own website and its list.0 -
Either that or she was possibly a member of the paramilitary wing of the WI and that might have been the trigger
Sssshhh, the WI Para Corps is strictly hush-hush.
Formed in the darkest days of WW2, the WI Para used to meet under the pretext of sock-knitting and jam-making, to train as the Nation's last defence against an invasion force.
A crack troop of younger matrons were secretly armed and the older ladies were covert ops. After all, what society ever suspects grannies as being up to no good?:rotfl:
Actually, it's prolly her being a nervous flyer. I am not a nervous flyer and obviously look Mostly Harmless because they never stop me for extra security checks.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Last year in one trip I was selected for 'random' inspection if either myself or hand luggage 5 times in 5 flights. This 5-flight trip it was none.
I do get annoyed by different rules at different airports (US is always all shoes off BTW), so generally assume the most stringent rules apply everywhere and always travel in jersey dresses with no pockets, zips, buttons or belts and don't wear jewellery. However, as I fly a lot I have a sturdy zipped clear bag for liquids. It fulfils all the regulations and I've used it for 6 years with no problems anywhere except Heathrow T2. Who insist you use a disposable ziplock sandwich bag.0 -

Is there any restriction on what you can put in your hold baggage folks? I haven't been on a plane for about ten years. I may have to take some tools over to Jersey to repair a storage heater.0

I always get asked to take my walking boots off at Manchester airport but didn't have to take them off at Heathrow or Gatwick. They were the same pair of boots .0

Check the details for the airports you are leaving from (both ways). For example, I know I can't put my laptop in the hold because it has a lithium ion battery. Generally they're concerned about things that are flammable or explosive. There are also weight limits that vary by airline...0 -
I've been stopped twice for a proper search. The first time, it was my first intercontinental flight after beating my flying phobia, and I was *incredibly* nervous - in and out of every toilet in the airport, I'm sorry to say ...
The second time was on Eurostar - my carry on bag was packed so tidily (all the bits were boxed up, brolly at the side) they thought it looked like a bomb, truly!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I bought one of these http://www.gadgetduck.com/goods/scannerbag.html
So that getting through the airport is easierIt's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Delurking to say that a few weeks ago I accidentally took a lock knife (Opinel no. 10, very good knife for a BOB IMO) through three international airports in my hand luggage. Fills you with confidence, doesn't it? :rotfl:0
