Thank you.
No news yet - trying to ring my father (but guess he is visiting her).
All possible travel arrangements checked out in case of need.
No trains at all today or tomorrow. No buses at all until Tuesday. The very helpful taxi-driver from nearest "place with train station" looks like he is working throughout and I've checked out his rate per mile and its VERY good - so I've sent him an email requesting to know whether he does long distance journeys/how much they would cost/etc. He's a little gem - so also waiting to see what he might have to say when he reads his emails.
So - still in "time will tell" position at present. Made out lists of possible travel arrangements/ stuff I would need to take/etc if need be and nowt else I can do at moment basically whilst we await news one way or other.
This is where I could do with having the holiday home back there that I would get if I could afford it - and then I could just "trek to and fro" whenever I want/for as long as I want and I'd just get soonest available taxi back and that would be that. Meanwhile back on Planet Earth....:(. Oh well....it is what it is...0 -
Just done a very quick catch-up.....
Oh dear MTSTM.....sorry you are stuck and hope that you will get rail travel sorted out for the 27th as that seems the only option really unless emails are read today (?, but I have skim read the last couple of pages)...I hope things end up being the better of the two options and things are ok in the end.
It's so frustrating when things are out of your control when trying to organise things.
Similar thing happened to me one year when my mum set her house on fire NYE with a Christmas candle on the tv and fell asleep.
I hope you manage to get arrangements sorted.
It is teaming it down here, thoughts also going out to those living in the west, what a nightmare, the mere mention of rain must have people hearts jumping at the moment.
Hope all stay safe.
Oh, and happy xmas everyone. I've just got back from Durham, will chill out for a bit before going off to work tonight.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Just catching up on latest news - after my fathers visit into hospital today Calico.
He says they are only allowing one visitor anyway to her at the moment still and not for that long. So - obviously he comes first in the "pecking order" for that visiting slot then. Still waiting to see how things go all round and can never get much information out of either of my parents re treatment - because they don't ask all the questions I would be asking in their position.
I always take the view that, if anyone wants me to have any medical procedure/drugs then I expect to be fully informed about the whole A-Z and then I will make up my mind whether I agree with it or no. They tend to still have the "do what doctor orders pretty unquestioningly attitude" that many of their generation have.
So - I'm none the wiser basically. Now wondering whether to ring the hospital and do the cross-questioning about whats what I would be doing in their position...
EDIT; I have just rung the hospital and asked for more detail on whats happening. So - nurse told me she is refusing some of the drugs they wish to give her. My response to that was along the lines of "Whatever decisions she makes are hers to make. Its her choice whether to take drugs on the one hand or refuse them on the other hand and I respect whatever decisions she makes for herself either way. When she makes up her mind - she makes up her mind I do know". Nurse seemed to feel that was correct attitude to take - judging by her response....0 -
Given your relationship you would be due answers to questions, especially given the distance away. She will have a 'key' nurse, ask to speak to her/him, this will get the better information.
My mum is of same attitude, and probably era.... (doctors always know best/dont ask questions etc) .I always ring myself to find out what is actually going on.
If you ring the ward, you will probably get better answers and a better picture of what is happening. All wards work slightly differently, but I would say 7pm may be a good time to phone, or after midnight after the handover/tablets/interventions etc and the ward may be a bit slower and they have time to chat.
Definitely ring.....it will help put your mind at rest a bit as you will have more, and clearer info.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Nearly had a meltdown here earlier - I couldn't find the festive jelly mould! Thought for one terrible moment that I'd got carried away with the decluttering & given away one thing the Offspring consider essential to a proper Christmas meal; none of them like Christmas pud, but they all love their Festive Jelly, made in the shape of a tree, partly with cranberry juice. Luckily it fell out of the cupboard onto my head whilst I was frantically trying not to drop my tagine...
So glad it turned up thriftwizard. I don't suppose my big metal strainer is in the same cupboard, is it? I certainly can't find it here, and it's only about a week since I used it *baffled*0 -
coming home last night with local taxi firm £14 ....coming home today by Uber same journey 7.990

MITSTM, regarding the cost per mile of your local authority, I may be wrong here, but are you sure that it applies outside the borough?
(Years ago when at boarding school, I used to get a taxi home from Reading Station. As we approached the M4, the taxi driver pressed a button on his meter, and it then increased at maybe three times the rate as it did within Reading.)0 -

One might get the idea from the news that the army is out in force but they can't be everywhere and I suppose they have to concentrate their efforts in more populated areas with greater risk. Which means that many small places like ours have been left to get on with it. And it's not just Cumbria of course.
But people here seem to be very stoic. The neighbours where I used to live would be going into meltdown by now!0 -
Merry christmas everyone x
Thinking of all who are having a bad or sad time.
Stay safe Pineapple.
Lovely to see all the helpful suggestions for MITSTM's travelling problems. Can I just add that an advance ticket can be bought within an hour of using it, I think. Seem to remember reading it on this website. Wish we lived nearer, more than happy to have given a lift, but the length of Wales away from us! Hope all is well. Not dim.....just living in soft focus

Pineapple, I hope you're still okay. I've been using the beta version of the Environment Agency's flood map, to check out the journey my mum and brother will be making today, and one bridge is 4cm from its highest ever, and another is 20cm *over* the highest ever
Down here in the south, of course, there's nothing. Thinking of you all.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
