My parents are currently cut off due to flooding, some nearby homes have been evacuated by boat. My parents are okay but I am concerned as they are elderly. We've just heard that the air ambulance is on its way to assist with the evacuation. We are not very far from Hebden Bridge, the situation is very frightening, my parents have lived locally all their lives at 80 dad says he's never seen it as bad as this before.
Hope your parents stay safe pollys.
Off to have a look at the weather forecast and google Frank, seems to be rain today, a bit of calm before it all starts again Wed according to the Beeb (which is probably wrong).
It's relentless isn't it.! Will text friend later and see if corbridge is flooded again. I was going to go there tomorrow maybe, but may have a rethink.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
One of the main streets in the village is flooded, but only to a depth of a few inches, and it's due to a burst water main, rather than the weather.0

Thank you my parents are safe, they have lovely neighbours who are keeping an eye on them and the current situation. Many towns and villages have been badly hit it's heartbreaking. Just hoping that everyone is safe.

Hebden Bridge is my old stomping ground and I'm wondering how my former house is doing. One of the reasons I moved is we were on a sort of escarpment and I was concerned about ground stability in just such a scenario.
That said I dare not look in the roof space where I am now for fear of what I might find. We have had practically continuous rain for the past two months and there is no end in sight.
Heart rending pics on the news today. This is getting almost biblical.0 -
It does seem biblical, doesn't it
I'm trying to distract myself from sitting here thinking right now
I'm perfectly safe, way down south, but my brother is driving my mum to see all three of her great grandchildren this afternoon, a first for her, she's on the edge of an amber zone, he's on the edge of a red zone, and they've got to pass another red zone
she didn't go to his on Christmas Day because she felt so ill, so she wasn't going to pass this one up ... He's very clued up on the web, but he's a bit gung-ho about coping behind the wheel, because he's such a good driver. Which is a good thing!

I was too complacent. It seems Eva has turned round to bite us on the bum. The wind chimes are doing a jig and the rain is battering us. Just been down to the river to see the cottages once again with water up to their garden gates. If this doesn't let up soon they will be inundated. I unwisely had let my doddery dog off the lead and had to grab her to stop her going into the storm waters, Anyway, I've whinged long enough about the lack of community response. If I don't do anything, I am part of the problem. So tomorrow I'll be talking to a neighbour who is one of the locsl movers and shakers and perhaps to the farmer across the way - who happens to be Chair of the Parish Council. It's not that simple of course. People are proud and it has to be the right sort of help offered in the right sort of way.0

Many different ways to help pineapple and I'm sure you will sort out something, thank you for at least caring- many don't.0

There are a fair few roads flooded where I am or tricky to pass, so heavens knows how it is further west.
Good for you Pineapple an the helping front.
I haven't lived where I am now long (2yrs). Not long after I had moved in the bungalow opposite had a fire. Not a bad one, but a fire non the less.
The emergency services turning up woke me from sleep after night shift.........so being half asleep, and in pj's, I watched from my window.
Why on earth did I do that?....it still bothers me now if i'm honest. I didn't know them....but does that matter?. And that is what stopped me, I had just moved in and didn't know anyone.
More worrying was that I later came to know that they had all lived here for years and No-one went to help or ask her into their home whilst they sorted it out.
That will always stay with me, and I will never do that again.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Anybody else thinking Sunday's Daily Mail front page might have been out of that book Flood that we were talking about?

Not heard anything from rellies, so I'm assuming all went well and everyone's managing to sleep in their own beds!
It does give you a bit of an uneasy feeling, doesn't it. It does me, anyway!
Here's hoping everyone stays safe.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
