Taking about things to fill you up my Gran, a yorkshire lass reckoned they had yorkshire puds as a starter with gravy to fill you up before the main, because the actual amounts of meat would be quite small per person.
She also said her mum would make a few extra to eat as pudding as well with a bit of sugar or if really lucky a small scoop of icecream lol.
TBH I make yorkie puds with any gravy type dinner, chicken, sausages gammon, turkey, whatever. If it gets mash or roasties and veg plus gravy I bang some yorkies on as well. Got it down to a fine art now and have been known to do them midweek (did them yesterday). Kids love them, easy and cheap and fills you up so less meat required.
Started planning for crimbo meals now, currently have our own lamb and turkey running around in our friends field-OH helps with the animals and food costs and we get the benefits of really cheap high quality, free range looked after meat and the animal gets the best life and least stressful death-use a small locally run abatoir.
OH mentioned there is talk of getting a small flock of meat chickens between us once the turkeys are gone.
I saw something where they said the turkey neck is just like ox tail, so pondering if it would make a nice winter soup, as not ev1 wants the giblets could probably get more than one.
Had a good sort of cupboards and storage and realised have a load of dried fruit so no need to buy any for my crimbo cake and prob enough to mix with some of the home grown apples currently in the shed to make my own mincemeat-got an easy bung it all in the slow cooker recipe to try for that. Think I may make some apple sauce as well to freeze for the day too.
Two more neighbours now out of work near us, so much for a "recovery" I know far more people out of work or having to start up small SE businesses just to get by.
Finally a little tip, don't leave a small amount of organic spelt in the bottom of the box without a plastic bag or box to seal it unless you want to pull it out and when you bump it onto the counter get a renactment of the scene in the mummy where all the beetles stream out .

ALI check ALL your other dry goods, if you've got pantry beetle in one thing you might have them in other open packets in store, I had this once and so has DD1 and we had to chuck out everything including dried fruit etc as the little blighters were EVERYWHERE, you might be lucky and have found the only thing but it's really worth checking or you'll have the devil of a job getting rid of them if they get a foothold! They were even in the chocolate!!!0

(does look rather tasty though)It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

I haven't tried rehydrating the dried Feta. We've just sprinkled it on top of meals and it gives a different texture (slightly squeaky) with a very intense flavour (which we really like)...so only a little bit is needed. It does soften slightly when in contact with a wet sauce (I tried some on top of chickpea curry today - delicious!).
Has anyone else tried drying anything else other than fruit or veg? I'm curious about other thing to try.0 -
just a quick heads up that talk talk has been hacked and the cyber baddies may have customer bank details , phone numbers etc ....... im worried keeping close eye on y account0

Yes, reading the news this morning about the cyber attack. Customers are urged to change their Chatchat account password, and if they use the same password anywhere else, to change that too. The company has apparently warned the major banks about possible fraud. I am sure that we are hearing about it after it has happened, i.e. any attacks on people's bank accounts will have already happened before the news came out. Yesterday on checking my account things were fine. I may do a quick balance check at a cash machine, but I certainly will not be checking my account via computer, kindle, IPad, smartphone or even via the telephone banking service! I may be over cautious, but you never know.......does anyone know if there is some form of protection for bank customers when funds are lost through cyber attacks? One life - your life - live it!0

The RBS say if you have downloaded their Rapport thingy then any money you lose is covered. I think that's right anyway.0

The Beeb weather forecast has just said that the biggest and most powerful hurricane ever recorded is heading towards Mexico with wind speeds of 250mph, the words they used were devastating and catastrophic!!!0
