It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

I've asked He Who Knows the question and he's come up with this as a suggestion, this one is polystyrene but there are others available in insulating blanket type material, click the link to see the picture, don't know if this would do?

Another suggestion, something like this

Mardatha, what about straw? It could easily be bent & twisted & tied around your regulator, then covered with something waterproof. I've used it in similar situations, where we have pipes exiting at very odd angles; your one problem might be if any wee sleekit beasties decided to overwinter in it.Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Another idea for winter preps; look out for decent wool blankets in the "pet bedding" bins in charity shops. I found a beauty yesterday; a woven red/blue/green Welsh or Scottish plaid blanket, with a couple of tiny moth nibbles, for £1. I've washed it at 60℃ to felt it a bit & the holes have vanished, although it is about 6" smaller all round! But also thicker, and lovely & soft. It'll be on one of our two sofas over the winter, ready to wrap around draft-stricken legs.Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Not sure if anybody will be able to help me here but I will ask anyway
My cooker runs on Propane, from a big cylinder out the back. Although Propane isn't supposed to freeze, it does - or at least the rubber regulator at the top of the cylinder does, and we have to pour over hot water to thaw it. Can anybody think of a good way to keep the regulator warm and dry so it doesn't freeze? It's an awkward shape.
How about putting cylinders & regulator in one of these tool stores against the house:

The little bit of heat that comes through the wall will stop the inside from freezing.0 -

Make a thermal bag slow cooker - Memory Girl has a tutorial you can get from her blog. She had a post on her blog saying that she had helped a friend to make one and the friend reported back that it had made a real difference to her electricity consumption.
As far as winter's concerned, even when the heating is on, I sometimes get very cold feet - I've learned to go for a walk, to get the blood circulating!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Well, much relief at Chateau Nargle tonight. The S that HTF a couple of weeks ago, when I learned there was something dodgy happening with my appendix, has settled a bit. My appointment was this evening, and it appears there is no evidence of any malignancy, I just need a straightforward appendicectomy. I have to ring the consultant' s Secretary next week to sort out an operation date.
From CT scan to referral to appointment, less than four weeks, and the multidisciplinary team that review potential cancer patients have already examined my pictures and ruled me out.
As an employee in the NHS I often take things for granted, but once in a while, crossing that line and being a patient just reinforces the fact that our healthcare system is a wondrous thing. I am sorry for those who have had bad experiences with it, but a system and organisation that size could never be perfect, and we would all be in serious SHTF country if the NHS folded overnight. Tonight I raise a glass of red wine and toast Mr Bevan and his friends who started it all off.One life - your life - live it!0
