Great news, Nargleblast! Happy for you, though I suspect having your appendix out is no picnic.Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

I have no worries on that score, apparently even an open appendicectomy only means an overnight stay if all goes well! One life - your life - live it!0

Nargleblast wrote: »Well, much relief at Chateau Nargle tonight. The S that HTF a couple of weeks ago, when I learned there was something dodgy happening with my appendix, has settled a bit. My appointment was this evening, and it appears there is no evidence of any malignancy, I just need a straightforward appendicectomy. I have to ring the consultant' s Secretary next week to sort out an operation date.
From CT scan to referral to appointment, less than four weeks, and the multidisciplinary team that review potential cancer patients have already examined my pictures and ruled me out.
As an employee in the NHS I often take things for granted, but once in a while, crossing that line and being a patient just reinforces the fact that our healthcare system is a wondrous thing. I am sorry for those who have had bad experiences with it, but a system and organisation that size could never be perfect, and we would all be in serious SHTF country if the NHS folded overnight. Tonight I raise a glass of red wine and toast Mr Bevan and his friends who started it all off.
Did you see this article recently Nargle:

This is a little worrying, isn't it?

Interesting article, jko, although the 27% failure rate in the antibiotics group means they were unable to prove their hypothesis about antibiotics being not inferior to surgery. My situation is slightly different as the term appendicitis has not been used - I have a thickening of the appendix with a mucous-secreting cyst. From what I have read, surgery is the only option. However, I am always interested to read about developments in medical science - thanks for sharing that. One life - your life - live it!0

Well, so much for governments making rules about banks keeping domestic banking separate from investment banking! One life - your life - live it!0

MrsLurcherwalker wrote: »Given that jobs are being shed like falling leaves all across the UK and people are really going to be hard put to find future employment what is the MOST Useful tip you would give to get by on an extremely limited income particularly if we are going to get the sort of really cold winter the media is suggesting this year. What would be the thing you'd do to get most use of your money and save most expenditure in the future months?
If the Winter is as cold as predicted one tip would be to visit free museums, libraries, other public places during weekends / days off to take advantage of them heating their buildings.
Another idea is around Christmas. If you have traditionally bought presents for a large number of family members and/or friends suggest a secret Santa where every person within the group buys a single present for one other and agree the maximum amount that can be spent. If people only have to buy one present they have a tendency to put more thought or effort into it. Hopefully a win-win for everyone!0 -

I've recently had cause to raise a glass or two in the same direction - and one to those who work in this marvellous institution.
I'm currently under a consultant who regards two weeks as too long to wait for a procedure and apologised that she had to wait for test results which would delay a consultation. I'm well aware that the NHS doesn't always run anything like this efficiently, but even at its most frustrating its still far better than just about any alternative scheme that's been proposed.0 -
Nargle - glad things are straightforward, that must have been scary for you.
Ivyleaf - thanks for the gaffer tape and WD40 flowchart!
A friend's son has gone off to technical college and is living in Monday-Friday.
I made him a little poster of the flowchart and put it in a frame, he roared laughing and is going to put it up in his room at college.
Have ordered myself a copy of Flood. It has started raining :rotfl:
My tip for anyone at home during the day in cold weather is layering and a flask with hot drink of choice in it. Saves the kettle going on and off!
Sadly, Mr.D. does not think my choice of hot mulled wine is appropriate:rotfl:
Enjoying working a few hours in a charity shop and am also going to apply to volunteer for Homestart.
Am resigning myself to the fact that I can't do very physical jobs any longer but something always turns up
It will have to..... seven years till I qualify for my pension :rotfl:
