Well, I am glad I am not going to Lesbos for my hols!

    Not good.

Mygawd! That is SO not good.

The poor Greeks - who are only trying to help them. Talk about kicked in the face for doing so...

If you get help in a strange country - you say "Thank you" nicely and appreciate it.

The Greeks have asked the eu for emergency help before it gets any worse....from Thursday we have strong storms and high winds coming and all the ferries are likely to be cancelled...

Yes it was my link showing the behaviour in Lesbos, Craigywv. Kos is also in a similar situation. Charities in Corfu are collecting food, supplies and clothes for the migrants and taking them where they are needed.

    http://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2015/09/07/greece-asks-eu-for-humanitarian-aid-announces-urgent-measures-for-lesvos-where-the-situation-is-a-step-before-social-explosion/

On a personal note, the Greek bank here is again denying me access to my own money in sterling account. I told them I was going back to the Greek ombudsman again to make a new complaint. It should have been available on 2nd and they told me today it would be at least the last day of September, even then it was in doubt. They have had my money since the third week in August according to my UK bank. Even when it clears I can only draw to the daily limit, so I have asked the ombudsman to rule on whether I can close the account and take out all my sterling in one day.

I was so incensed I shook the rude bank managers hand when I left and wished him good luck in finding a new job, which no doubt he will be looking for shortly. Either when all the banks go down here or when he gets fired for having two Banking ombudsman malpractice cases against him. The top manager smiled at me and nodded in agreement with what I had said....

Just found this, there are couple of F words in it.

This is scary stuff, you can hear the fear in that man's voice.

Aiiieeeeee! Desperation there, from a Greek at the receiving end of the incoming violence.

1Tonsil - there was something yesterday about German "humanitarian aid" to Greece being doubled last weekend? It was in the Guardian, I think. Is it true, do you know? And what constitutes "German humanitarian aid" these days to Greece, of course, is another matter :(

It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

I can see Golden Dawn doing very well in the upcoming elections. They will probably resort to concentration camps (British invention by the way) and using this to deter new arrivals.

I have just had two emails telling me they are doing this with cheques in the US as well, even weekly wage cheques, its in the bank but you are not given access to it. I think now is a great time to be on this thread, getting in stocks of food and fuel and water. I think the crash may well come in the next two months, certainly before the winter sets in hard.

Over 43,000 votes now.... maybe if everyone who voted donated a pound we could bribe a refugee camp to take her as an exchange?

I know the development you mean, but the failed Athenian invasion of Syracuse in Sicily resulted in the first known concentration camp. Near the bottom of this page, the second paragraph under "Final Syracusan Victory".

We havent actually received any yet from Germany, but have asked for EU emergency teams to go to the islands and help, as they are overwhelmed by the number of migrants. Kos has about eighty thousand residents and more than double that migrants.

I think the bad weather on the way and cancelled ferries may well bring this to a very violent head over the next few weeks.....the migrants have no patience by the look of it. Even in the best cases you need a lot of it to wait out Greek bureaucracy!

As long as incomers obey and understand the laws of the land and come to understand the conventions here in the UK and don't try to live by their own religious laws outside those laws that we (mostly) all abide by there will only be differences of culture and preference and some of those might enrich our lives and give 'US' to think!
You must be in glass half full mode MrsL! :D
I don't think it matters much if incomers abide by the law of the land - there is a resentful proportion of the population who will see them as either an IS threat or a resource threat.
Me my heart breaks when I see the more vulnerable migrants struggling and if I had a home which was not a building site in the middle of nowhere I would want to offer a roof. This could well be us sometime in the future if the new mini ice age comes about.
But when I see some of the Calais scenes on the news I wonder...
That said the bigger picture is the potential military action in Syria etc. I fear this has the potential to be a Cuban Missile Crisis Mark 2
