Am I missing something? Why is it only EU countries being expected to help the refugees?
Surely the rest of the world can help too??
The migrants are not from Europe and some of the causes are global so imo it shouldn't just be Europe's problem any more than it should just be up to their arrival points to deal with. We can be critical of some of the scenes in the Greek islands etc but I'm not sure we would be doing any better.
Anyhow looking at the big picture and with my half full hat on (with a dab of tinfoil nat) I do wonder whether we will one day look on this as the start point of chaos or worse. The flood gates are opening. How soon before the admirable goodwill in Germany changes? How soon before we get unrest in the UK after some of the newly arrived in Europe make their way here?
How many IS operatives are sneaking in under the radar?
As for attempts to resolve the problems with IS, Assad etc, there is huge potential for a falling out amongst the superpowers.
    Precarious times.
  • This is one of the "biggie" questions Pineapple - ie how many ISIS fighters are going to use this to sneak in under the radar?

The mixed blessing of some parts of Britain is I have spoken to people in this area that would "take matters into their own hands" if they positively identified someone as "Isis troublemaker". On the negative side - can we be sure that innocent people wouldn't be identified as Isis troublemaker and come on the receiving end of the same treatment.

Yep...Isis troublemakers dealt with = hear no evil/see no evil etc etc. But if people are wrongly identified as "That Isis lot" just because of their race and get the same treatment:eek:

This is scary stuff, you can hear the fear in that man's voice.
  • As long as incomers obey and understand the laws of the land and come to understand the conventions here in the UK and don't try to live by their own religious laws outside those laws that we (mostly) all abide by there will only be differences of culture and preference and some of those might enrich our lives and give 'US' to think!

Ok folks, so what are the legal ways of protecting yourself in your own home?

What are you, going to use?

Cause we sure as hell are going to have to start thinking about it!
  • I wonder if the refugees we accept, if spread throughout the country, will accept the location they have been allotted, or if they will prefer to move to places which already have a population of people who share their language/religion/culture, and where they can obtain the sorts of food they are used to?

I was strongly thinking of offering to take one or two refugees in to my house, but then I saw the reports showing some of the wilder young men making forceful demands about where they wanted to go, and some of the women with very forthright views, and I thought harder.

They do not do their cause any good by refusing to comply with the laws and be registered; if they won't do that, what other laws may they disregard?

I do wonder though, where organisations like the Red Cross are in all this, as they used to run refugee camps and reception centres in a non-governmental way.
