  • In my ponderings about stores I realised the thing I'd miss most is cheese, I used to be able to get tinned Kraft cheese from the world foods section at T*sco but haven't seen it for ages and today I found some non fridge Primula Cheese, which I know is a spread, but it comes in a tub or a tube and has several variants of flavour. I think I'll get a few different tubes to go into the stash, not cheese 'per se' but cheesy enough to give us a 'fix' if we need one. Pretty good use by dates on them too.

I think that longer term the solution will be to make it yourself. Only yesterday I discovered my grandmother used to make her own cheese. Maybe it is something I should look into and start doing myself. Being able to make soft mozzarella type cheese for pizza and cheddar will cover most of my needs. It will also fit in with my clean living diet.

Not just in China. This would be a good idea here as long as you do it like this.

It will allow a private debt clearance which helps free up their spending. So if you had £10000 each then you could use it to clear any debts outstanding and then what is left could be used for spending. If you had no debts you could spend it all. To stop everyone saving it they could put a time limit on it.

  • Farmhouse cheeses covered in wax used to last for 9 months but I think the storage places were cooler, I know some folks used caves, so much cooler than room temperature, I don't think waxed cheeses out of the fridge (I don't have a cave either) would last a while maybe a couple of weeks but would deteriorate in flavour quite a lot. I'm not sure that any long life/dried milk would make cheese, I may be wrong, but I think you probably need fresh whole milk and I haven't got a goat/cow either. I guess long term in the aftermath though you might aquire a cow, but for me either the Primula or the non fridge cheese triangles would have to do in the short term.

Slightly expensive at £4.00 for 300g if you buy the multi pack.

Do you know how to skin and dress small game?

Yes we do BB, but you make a good point its all these lost skills that may well be needed if/when the modern society starts to crumble.

OH has helped with slaughter of poulty and used to regularly hunt, skin and eat rabbits/pigeons etc. Never tried squirrel, but looking online it seems simular to rabbit.

Another thing I have thought of is that most of these wild sort of meats are gamey and so perhaps more strong flavourings will be needed to help people get used to eating them. Then again if hungry I guess you eat what you can lol.

For those of you into FB and Princes pies, £world have the following in:-

    Just chicken.

    Steak and Kidney.

    Chicken and mushroom.

    Chicken balti.

    Minced beef and onion.

They've also got 400g tins of Napolina Butter Beans @ 2 for £1.

Anyone else have a hubby and teenage son who eat these FB pies faster than they can store them lol.

  • We're omitting to mention the easiest to catch and process most readily available source of protien which is most likely within feet of you as you sit and no I don't mean rats, although they are edible, I mean the humble garden snail all species found in the UK are edible introductions by the invading Romans and they farm themselves, in some cultures they are a delicacy. If we could overcome our squeamishness we would have something a lot easier to catch than hunting game!
