Take a look at the Guardian's business blog - check out the *whole* post at 0906, on the chart pattern of the surge in the Shanghai market yesterday: http://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2015/aug/27/asia-pacific-stock-markets-continue-recovery-after-dow-bounces-back-live

  • You never know where treasure lurks do you? I went into town this morning and got off on the periphery to get some more cider yeast for He Who Knows from the homebrew shop and walked in to the centre. I had to pass many charity shops and have virtually stopped going in as the stock seems static and if I didn't want what they had last time I certainly wouldn't want it this time. However, I hadn't been in to Age Concern for ages as it stands in a spot on its own, not near any other charity shops, so I went in today and Lo and Behold, there on the shelf for £1.99 stood a ceramic chamber candlestick, like a mug with the front cut off and a candle holder inside on the bottom, usual mug handle at the back, better than that it's another item from Portugal which matches my little collection from Conimbriga, needless to say it is now on the dresser with a candle in it! Lucky find and I'm happy!!!

The government are up to no good so have a look at this and fill in if you feel so inclined.

TBH Frugalsod I used that form and email to my MP to state the exact opposite of what the campaign intended. The sooner the LF is either drastically cut or removed the better. The BBC need to become a fraction of the size, and start to actually cut back and stop the wastage like the rest of the country have to.

TBH if the whole BBC and everything they did dissapeared tomorrow there isn't a member of my family would miss a thing. The only exception would be Doctor Who, but that was pushed by the original producers and would likely find a home elsewhere anyway.

Not having a got at you personally because every one has a right to their opinion, but I know of no one under around the age of 50 personally who rates the BBC at all so I reckon their days are numbered at best. My sons generation watch zero TV, he streams stuff via various sites, but never iplayer the BBC just doesn't appeal to him and his mates.

  • Sadly not Salisbury, slightly more easterly in Hampshire but yes, Salisbury IS a beautiful place isn't it?

Probably most home-brew shops fit that location description. :)

I do not watch the BBC much nowadays either but it is the threat to all the other aspects like radio or web. The commercial operators want to eliminate competition so we have more crap like the Daily Mail.

Though the BBC could cull the top pay of management and its top stars. They can find new talent and if they ask for too much money go and find some other channel to pay them.

It is the political independence that I am more concerned about. If that were to change the ministry of culture should be renamed the Ministry of Propaganda or Newspeak.

  • Here's a thought.....if things went awry overnight tonight and we woke up to a very different world tomorrow morning with no banks open/no cash points working and no shops open how would your existing preparations stand up and how long could you stay low profile at home without having to go out for supplies or any kind? If the power was out too how would you go about doing what needs to be done? How long could you cope for? Interesting to see what answers come back on this one!
