Start with what you actually eat - if you don't like it now then the odds are you won't like it when the pressure is on.

The thing is, we don't eat much tinned food, or frozen ready meals etc. I tend to buy frozen or fresh meat and make my own meals.

Have to ask, 8kg of chocolate! Was that the ones from past half price offers at Lidl?

I wish I could keep that amount of chocolate in the house. I would have to get my husband to put it in the loft!

Is anybody else reading the panicky headlines on zerohedge about a stock market/bank crash?

    I wasn't but I am going there now ........ :D

I have been watching a few YouTube vids over the past few weeks about the collapse of the dollar, which they say is imminent.

They reckon there will be a domino effect, not sure how badly it will affect the man in the street over here but I have made sure we have hard cash to hand just in case we can't access it through the ATM, branch.

I keep an amount of tinned food in the meal rotation. About 75% of meals are cooked from scratch or bulk cooked and frozen down in portions. I generally aim to have 3 months of meals (or meal building blocks) in the freezer, though I'm running under that at the moment. I would like to go down the pressure canning route and produce shelf stable jars but there are too many other demands on my time at the moment.

The bulk of the chocolate is Callebaut, I tend to buy their 2.5Kg bags of callets, there's about 2Kg of their bake stable sticks for making choc au pain and the rest is mainly Green and Black's.
I occasionally nibble a handful but generally I'll decide that I fancy x made with chocolate and set to baking (and often supply Herself's office at the same time). I haven't done any baking in the last month but did deplete the stocks before that catering a friend's ruby wedding.

There is me, trying to be good and cut down on the old chocolate during the week and I have had to go and eat some chocolate digestives now after reading your post.

    :D

I am not very good at the not eating chocolate game. :o

I think I have the basics covered. Living in a small home I don't have much storage space and with having mobility problems there's no chance of me bugging out so will have to take what comes if things get really bad.
I think bugging out is an absolute last resort and should be avoided if possible. If things do get a bit hairy then you probably could use any space in any room for additional food and water storage. I doubt that you will be doing much entertaining when things get bad, so you could fill up the living room with extra cans of food if necessary.

Interesting that he is a prepper. Do you think he is on these forums? This is the sort of stuff we have been saying for ages. So some of the old hands here are well ahead of the curve in terms of this.

My first line of defence would be drenching them with a hosepipe whilst they were still in the garden - but I do have a knife (never used I hasten to add...) or could take a swing at someone with a walking pole. Add that I've got one or two pretty lethal-looking long-handled garden tools.

Ya' know - I much prefer looking up appropriate laws/rules and regulations/etc and using them to defend myself if need be:rotfl:The thought of living in a society where I constantly felt the need to defend myself - rather than just Getting On With My Life - is not one I'd go for personally.

Privacy for doing anything pretty much is lacking at the moment - and part of my preps. is going to be a fence put up between me and nosy neighbour to protect my privacy (which is sadly lacking around my house at the moment). At the moment I suspect my garden is being minutely scrutinised on a daily basis from what I've noticed - so dealing with that has to be one of my top priorities.
