My home made hummus....no Tahini as we dont like it.
Can of chickpeas drained...or home cooked chick peas
two cloves of garlic
big pinch of salt
a few herbs...I like basil or mint
Dash of lemon juice or cider vinegar
two tablespoons of good olive oil
Blend until smooth. we use sticks of carrot and celery to dip in it or its very nice on toast or crackers.
Tsatsiki
Greek yogurt
grated cucumber
dash lemon juice
pinch salt
two cloves of garlic grated fine
mix all together, you can also add fresh mint or dill to it
As to the coconut oil, I use about a tablespoon in a stir fry.0 -
Must be difficult times for the catering businesses affected (and the people who work in them)
I hadn't thought of that.
Regarding the water also saw on local news that animal shelters are also having issues as they use alot of water for the animals to drink. We weren't sure if the chickens would be effected, but as we eat the eggs they produce we figure we have to give them pure water as well.

Have you seen Kos with all the asylum seekers demanding food? As if the Greeks have enough to sustain themselves, let alone those chancers.

Homemade nutella benefits from the addition of coconut oil as it helps get the right texture and stays that way. If you are not allergic that is. It also has huge health benefits:T
I'm on a promise for some hazelnuts:) - so would be interested if you could share your recipe for that please.0 -

It has turned really ugly now...
It is a very difficult situation - and one can see all sides here:
- the poor Greeks being in this situation
- the poor refugees
- the poor countries they are looking to get to.
All 3 groups are "not in a good place" on this and it is very hard to know what to do for the best, as there doesn't seem to be a win/win situation - where they can be helped on the one hand, but without harming the Greeks/other countries/our own country on the other hand. Definitely a communal "my head hurts" situation all round as to what the solution to all this is
- and there doesn't seem to be one...:(0 -
Just got back from a trip to Ikea and they have their POLARVIDE throws which are single bed sized and lovely and warm reduced to £2 each. They are light in weight too, also the tealights are £1.75 for 100 and the lanterns to hold them are £2. I've got a couple of the lanterns already and love the fact that they are glass panels surrounding the flame and a fastening door to access the tealight, much safer than an open candle flame.0

Greece currently has 100 000 + refugees this year alone. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

yep, I saw those pictures - awful, awful, and I agree, I don't think there's any solution. A lot of babies and very young children in those pictures too - nobody's going to take their baby on a trip like that unless they're truly desperate. Syria had almost as high a standard of living as western Europe, and as Frugalsod says, they're fleeing a war zone2023: the year I get to buy a car0
