:o Why, you couldn't possibly be alluding to a certain duchess of the realm, could you? A society type mentioned in passing in a book of gossip that they were known as the Wisteria Sisters, for being so good at clinging and climbing.

Very old fashioned attitudes to bringing up daughters; be pretty and marry well.

  • Not mine!!! they were brought up to be equal and always told they could do anything equally well as the male of the species. My younger girlie found a man who is as bright as she is and who knows her to be equal in all things, their marriage is a friendship, a partnership and a meeting of minds as much as being a thing of love. My older girlie has never met a man who doesn't bore her to tears, she has a career instead and is making good progress in changing attitudes in the male dominated domaine that is a private school staffroom, she doesn't accept being told she can't do things because she's female, she keeps chizeling away at that attitude and has liberated quite a lot of her female colleagues from being 'just a woman'. It's an ongoing work though, but she's a terrier who won't be kept in a kennel, she's a good girl!
  • It was "that" dress wot done it GQ ;). I did wonder how on earth it would be possible to "reel someone in" wearing a dress like that in a photo that would re-surface at intervals over the years and then cultivate necessary "prim and properness" image after that. But I guess that was a carefully calculated gamble, based on increasing "changing standards" in Society at large and a risqu! other female member of the wider family.

I'm that same sign of the Zodiac myself (ie we tend to plan and then plan some more to be on the safe side:rotfl:) - but was watching that level of pre-planning with gobsmacked astonishment at not putting a foot wrong ever as far as I could see. I've never seen such attention to detail.

:) And just think of what it's done to the marriage prospects of her sister! A rising tide lifts all boats, hey? Marry P and have the future king of england as your bro in law!

  • Personally - I wouldn't want to be in that position. Those narrow hips combined with an absolute obligation to have childen (though I guess the pre-planning included how to get round the size of those hips causing extra pain etc).

Add the fact that - even in 21st century Britain - the exact same people who've watched all that planning at very close quarters will be the ones who are waiting and hoping to do a "catch out" for having an affair ever. In that position - you'd have to be very careful just who you flashed that sort of "look" at - in case it was in the papers the next week speculating;). Admitted hubbie is pre-programmed to accept infidelity ....unlike the pre-programming some of us have (which goes = you do mate and you're out on your ear pronto....because I've not been used to seeing that at close quarters).

I'd hate never having a scrap of privacy myself...so would regard it as price too high to pay....

If there is genuine love and friendship between the couple alluded to, then about time! At last a human face to the Family Firm, and a chance for future generations to have a more normal perception of feelings and emotions, compared with the stiff robot-like puppets of yesteryear.

I am no flag-waving royalist, but I would not bring myself down to the level of the gutter press, who are constantly sniping at them and looking for things to criticise in order to sell stories. I do not waste time and emotional energy on resenting people who are better off than I am. I wish them well but get on with making the most of my own life.

  • I think they look happy, they present the appearance of a strong little family unit and the kiddlers look normal what's not to like? Does it really matter how they met? She's an asset, the firm have never been seen in such a normal light and she's a beautiful woman who is also not afraid to get pitched in whilst wearing high heels, she gets my vote any day!
  • This is a very good insight into the Greek debt crisis and that the EU have basically set them up to be asset stripped by the banksters and the1%
