Best of luck Bob!
In terms of the potential problems, I think anywhere along the railway line has an issue, possibly. However - they'll be fresh off the train, but they've been existing in France for some little while - so any health problems would have shown up there?
Speaking of the migrant problem, I want to understand why they're not satisfied with being in France, and want to come here instead, but I don't know a news source to trust - I don't want to wade through endless screeds of racist claptrap, but I do want to understand what's going on. Are they trying to reconnect with family already here? The benefit system? The wage levels? The cash economy? Memories of colonialism? I've no idea, and it's probably some things I know nothing about. But I'd like to. Anyone got any links they trust, please?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Which reminds me, I need to order some different heritage seeds just to have a good choice of vegetables and fruit.

The making life hell policy's official name is "counselling them out". I ended up working for a company following a takeover which was very upfront about that. One of my colleagues in the taken over company hung on and hung on until the Disability Discrimination Act came into law. Then he said to them "Now pay me off" And they did. First time they had ever paid any compensation on loss of employment. We all cheered - those of us who hadn't found other jobsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Allow plenty of time to get to the tunnel, Bob. It took my niece five hours to drive to Dover last week-should have taken two. There were disruptions on the trains in Kent this week too.0

Thanks MITSTM. I'd never heard of the 'make life hell' policy, but it makes sense. Two of my employers did exactly that, twenty & thirty years ago.
Yep....my first thoughts on this sort of thing were along the lines of "Must be imagining it....surely not.....", but too many of their employees were reporting exactly the same thing and I watched quite a lot of stuff going on that was a bit "close to the edge" to my mind in terms of how to treat people. Its surprising just how many people give way to that sort of mental pressure and DO "resign of their own free will" (apparently;)).
Mygawd - some of the stuff that came into my possession to read;) was a positive revelation:eek:.0 -
What about those who live near the Channel Tunnel - do you feel apprehensive about the migrants on the other side? I mean in terms of bringing crime and disease etc?
Never mind just the Channel Tunnel...
I remember that - many years back when it first opened up - I thought "You stupid idiots putting that one there in place. It will come back to bite and bite hard at some point in the future".....and I was starting to think I had got it wrong over the years.
But...s*d it and I don't think I did....:(. Quite frankly - what happened (twice) this week amounted to a mini-invasion.:(. So just what do we do - if that 2,200 Would-be Invasion Mark 1 and 1,500 would-be Invasion Mark 2 happens again and this time with increased numbers? At that point - I honestly wondered whether we should send the army in to stop it - and that is so not my normal way of thinking for sure.
EDIT; In fact I am coming very much to the opinion we need to shut that Tunnel and make it right now. I know some holidaymakers and businesspeople will moan about it - but it is for the greater good and I foresee these "mini-invasions" will only get worse if we leave it open. This week in 4 figures. Next month/next year - there could be a 5-figure number of people trying to storm it and get through - IF we give them the chance.0 -

If I lived near it, it would'nt just be migrant's disease's I worry about, think what a highway it is for rat's and the disease's they carry and the speed that they spread, living not far from Eyam mean's having a reminder around of how much trouble rat's can bring.£71.93/ £180.000 -
