Do you think that the population are changing their attitude to being in the Euro? Thinking that the alternatives could not be worse that what they have on offer?

To be honest, I dont think the polls showed the truth when they said seventy percent wanted to stay in the euro, the same as they did not tell the truth when they said that everyone was going to vote YES to austerity.... Everyone knows that the folks cant survive on any less pension...some are getting just two hundred euros a month and are trying to keep a family on that due to the unemployment.

I do agree with one change they brought in today though...they have increased VAT on processed food to 23 percent, starting today. It will do wonders for obesity and health! Natural , unprocessed food will stay at 13 percent.

Instead, after the results in Seatac, he is opening five new restaurants to meet demand. And this story is being repeated, over and over again, throughout the region."

It seems the EU and Germany may be having a change of heart...Germany now says it may accept the thirty year loan deadline and the EU have just issued this

    http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_STATEMENT-15-5379_en.htm

Meanwhile, My own prepping continues, although I am going to start buying more Greek products for my stores, not only helping this country, but they are the lower range VAT now as well, especially olive oil. My store cupboards are full at the moment, but will use some of the older stock and replace it. I dont trust any of the politicians or institutions any more. It is clear from financial reports that they are all in trouble, its just that some are better at hiding it than others.

To take my mind of the flaming politics I have been considering this winter. We have taken steps to weather proof the house after the horrors of last winter, when the rain came through the wall, under the roof, and through the front room like a river! One of the good things we did was to have a solar system fitted that tops up the central heating and the hot water. It was only lukewarm in the winter , even on the sunny days, but it meant we used less than half the fuel to heat the house and water that we usually use. Of course, now its summer, the hot water is boiling and the heating is off.

I need to visit the '' prepare for winter'' thread on here to remind myself of things I can do now to be ready for it. Its hard to think of winter when we are having the hottest summer on record in Greece. We will be in the uk for a month or so over Christmas and New year, so I will be going dressed ready for all it can throw at me. I will also be stocking up on long jumpers while I am in the UK...all the jumpers sold in Greece are for tiny bodies and even if they fit your boobs, they expose your kidneys to the elements!

I can see it happening again and I think its a toss up which politicians get lynched first...the old boys or the new ones. I can see the likeness to the turkeys voting for Christmas as well here in Greece.
Personally I did not expect Tsipras to agree to what are clearly vindictive terms but he has shown TPTB in Europe for what they are and that ultimately will kill the EU.

Personally I would start with the bankers. They were the ones that lend to egregiously that they had to be bailed out. Send a warning to all bankers that they are vulnerable.

At the moment, we have YES politicians and No politicians resigning left right and centre...pardon the pun. While the rest are locked in parliament arguing about the proposal to give Greece away for free....the IMF have decided they, and no one else, can do anything without a debt haircut... or a thirty year grace period for the country to recover from the austerity. The EU have deliberately under estimated the damage done by the banks being closed by the ECB....who also say no more. I can understand the other countries refusing to give any more money....its all going to the German banks. Incidentally, the Deutsche bank is now being investigated for laundering Russian money.....and were asked to do so by Putin.... Interesting times we live in eh?
This is a bad deal no matter what side you are on. Yes or No. It should not be agreed to. With the levels of debts the alternative for Greece would be 35 years of austerity even if you lasted that long. It would be better out of the Euro and even possibly the EU.

Though if that happened I suspect that the EU embassies will become targets from the mobs.

There are demonstrations tonight and tomorrow in Athens, as the vote is expected tomorrow..they have a deadline of midnight to vote, but some of the changes have to become law tomorrow morning. I can feel revolution in the air....the citizens will NEVER allow this to go through and Greece to be given away, complete with ancient monuments, Gold, oil , gas and bank deposits.
I also fear that the military might be pressured by NATO to intervene as well.

Meanwhile, there is word that the banks will not be allowed to open till at least Monday of next week.....
I doubt that they will be open for several weeks. They are insolvent, plus it will punish the Greeks for voting No.

What the hell?EU to Cameron.....when we agreed to your demand not to use Eu stability fund money for a bailout..it was a political agreement, and therefore, it can be broken..

I must say my reaction to that little try-on by the EU was "An agreement is an agreement - so stop playing with words you little ******s"

I would have loved to stood there and told them to their little faces "You aint having any of our money for that - so **** off. Y'all have a nice day now:cool:".

Don't forget the virtues of thermal vests and layering clothes. How about the solar powered lights that a certain foreign company sell or else winding torches or radios.

Am I right in thinking you are an aficianado of steam punk? If so then I have a book of short stories by George Mann about the Newberry and Hobbes casebooks. If you would like it let me know and I'll pop it in the post for you.

Funnily enough in my recent stay in hospital there was an old chap in the bed opposite at death's door hooked up to several machines.

I was quite touched to see the nurses feeding him.
