I suggest this thread be renamed "What to do when Osborne sticks the knife in"0

The journalism thing is going to the courts...it seems they were paid to influence the voters and to scare the old folks into voting Yes. The tv stations and media here are the biggest tax avoiders. Think what you wish, the British media are spreading lies about the situation in Greece as well....what is their ulterior motive and who is paying them to do so?
Take for instance the current breaking news on the Uk sky news...it states that Greece has accepted conditions in return for a three year loan. It is not true......Greece offered the reforms and it has not been accepted. But I am not rising to the bait of arguing with you, I have other things to do like helping my neighbours.
I have just watched the budget on the tv for Britain....if you believe Britain is still do in well......good luck for the future.....:rotfl:0 -
The opposition is having an emergency meeting in parliament without the government team .....I fear there may be a political and military coup. I cannot see that being popular given the history of Greece and the NO vote ...... It has been talked about for a while but now it seems more likely than ever. I will keep posting as much as I can no matter what happens. A decree has been issued that the banks are staying closed till at least next Monday, after the 28 countries vote on the bail out or Greek exit. Exciting, and scary times!0

Tonsils, anybody who believes anything the UK govt says is seriously deluded. Wages are apparently up 11%... in their dreams maybe built nowhere else. I wouldn't believe that shower if they told me the world was round!0

just seen on FB about wages going to a livable wage?? what does that mean? how much per hour, and when does this start?
we have already had to lay people off, due to business struggling, we are down to hubby, me and eldest, and one person who works 16Work to live= not live to work0 -
I wonder how this new minimum wage will pan out - I can see alot of small nursing homes, nurseries etc., struggling .

The living wage is already up here, the Scottish govt pays their workers the Living Wage. But anywhere else, all it means is that businesses pay people off and the existing workers will have to cover their work.0

thanks.
this will not only hit nursing homes.. small businesses first came to mind, but after talking about this with hubby, even large businesses.
just supposing a firm employs 50 full time people.. this increase will cost them an additional 2k per week?? plus the additional tax the employer pays, AND the 55 of the employees wages into a pension fund..
so if you are a big/global firm, this will drive your manufacturing/processing plants abroad.. Plus supermarkets will import alot more produce/food as they will want to be competitive and pay as little as possible..
soooo this will make even less jobs available to chase..Work to live= not live to work0 -

I have been wondering whether a coup is the next thing that will happen to Greece - and hoping I am wrong.
Fingers crossed that, whatever solution (if there be such a thing) that happens, will be both peaceful and democratic.
I admit my fears for a while for Greece have centred round Arab Spring rejoicing followed by "worse than ever" scenario. But I obviously very much hope I'm wrong.
Right....off to catch up with the Budget and see just what got announced in it. Have been rather anticipating two positive things....don't know about negative things....must check the news websites to see....0
