Still alive, had another rough night but, at some point about dawn, felt I'd turned a corner. I have some medical conditions which make getting anything else on top an absolute bu88er, but there you go.
Have drunk many glasses of water to rehydrate me and the pounding headache is subsiding somewhat. Hope the general public are OK with me today as I feel a wee bit fragile, but you gets what you gets.
Going to be taking it easy for the next couple of days so I can be fighting fit for the weekend; we've had rain and I can HEAR those allotment weeds growing from the flat.
Have a good day, folks, prolly check in this evening. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

We've had rain too, and quite a lot of it; woke up at about 5am as Him Indoors was getting up for work, and it sounded like someone was tipping up a bathtub outside the bedroom window. This morning, there are massive puddles lying on the lawn, which is normally reasonably free-draining; I suspect the river will be at bankfull and possibly overtopped here & there.
Hope rest will be a swift & efficient cure, GQ - don't fret about the weeds, you're just lulling them into a sense of false security. They'll pop their little heads up thinking you're not about, then - wham!
Off now to check that the molluscs haven't wreaked too much damage in the greenhouse; the door blew off yesterday. It's one of those little Norfolk plastic jobs, as there's nowhere sensible to put a bigger one, so there's no lasting damage; I left it where it was as it was safer there, but will try to mend it before I go off to restock my mother's larder later. Not that a door will stop snails, but it does stop the chickens going in after them. Trouble with that is, they often rather fancy a spot of young tender salad to accompany the meat course...Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Nice to see you Perplexed Pineapple! I was thinking of 2Tonsils, or 1Tonsil as I think she is now, the other day. Hopefully she's all right.0 -

What do you make of this, guys?
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-05-06/massive-fire-rages-after-another-buffett-owned-oiltrain-derails-north-dakota-town-evIronically, this happens days if not hours after US federal regulators were forced to devise new rules for oil trains after 141 oil train derailments and fires in 2014.
141! !!!!!!?
Do they do no track maintenance at all, and just send the train off hoping for the best?0 -

Quite possibly they do.
I remember when British Rail (as was) DID do appropriate track maintenance when required. That was quite some years ago though. I have read articles since about how little track maintenance has been done subsequent to privatisation and that various train accidents have happened specifically because of lack of train maintenance.
I confess I try not to think about it........other than I'd be looking for a group claim to join in in the event of that being the cause of a train accident....to sue their little backsides for it being their fault.0 -
For those who keep a preppers food cupboard I found the 'Mug Shots' pasta packs in Ic*land today at 3 for £1. They had the tomato ones which are by far the best so I got us half a dozen to go into the BOBs. I also found in Wi*kos nesting stainless camping cutlery at £1.50 a set of knife, fork and spoon, going to be more robust than the sporks we currently have. Other food things included in BOBs are crackers, peanut butter,jam/honey,cheese spread triangles, chocolate bars, sweet biscuits, instant hot chocolate, cappuccino sachets, dried fruit, enough to see us through a week if necessary.0

Oohh, JD was my fave tipple when young and lairy, still wouldn't say no, why does no one ever buy me strong liquor?!
Actually, if you wanna laugh, a pal did buy me a bottle of what I thought was ginger ale last Xmas, as I'd had something similar recently. I was drinking it by the tumbler, thinking it was about the 4% proof mark, turns out it was a blend of whiskey and ginger and Herbs and more like 16% proof. Whee! Very nice, though.
Had another bad night and am hoping to be able to sleep properly tonight, figure you can only go so far on fumes, so will probably conk out. Thanks for the well-wishes.
I was most annoyed to be texted (on my s0dding landline) by one of our candidates twice in 20 mins - at suppertime- asking me to text back if I was going to vote for them. Felt like texted back Yup, I was going to, but now I've changed my mind because you've p'd me off.
Hmm, I wonder where the heck they got my phone number from, it's never been in the book and why some muppet thinks this is an acceptable way to canvass.
Loads of peeps calling up today to check they're on the electoral register. If they hadn't got on by 20/04 they ain't voting in this election. Seems to be a bit more interest than in previous ones, IMO, looking at it from the council end. Perhaps a lot of peeps are itching to express democracy all over the country?
Personally, I'd prefer to express extreme displeasure with pointy agricultural implements, but that's just me being wicked......:rotfl:
Weather's a bit wild here, day two of strong winds, had some trees hitting the deck. And hitting fences and cars, mercifully no people but the larch-lap panels aren't having a very good day. Good day to tie a brick to the cat's tail (to stop it blowing away).Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

If there are power cuts or problems with the gas supply then they are an excellent alternative. Even wood burning stoves can be handy if you have somewhere outside where you can cook. If you only have access to water then you could rehydrate meals and cope quite well.
Solar panels and power packs can be used to maintain power for many gadgets that we take for granted now. That helps with many entertainment needs.
Camping gear can help cope with extreme weather such as using sleeping bags indoors if the heating fails. Or pitching the tent in the garden if the house is too hot. Handy for going to music festivals or on holidays.
Very useful if you have to emigrate for work. You can take some basics to maintain you while settling down in the new country.
Finally a great back up if homelessness becomes a reality. Remember millions lost their homes around the world in 2008 onwards. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
