I believe there have always been some secure accomodations in Lunnon Town. The Tower, and various other dank and dungeonous places. Or how about an oubliette?
Today I have been leafletted by UK!P and a cash-for-clothes place. Says it all, really.............:rotfl:It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Ah, but don't MP's usually enjoy prison? I think it reminds them of boarding school.0
-
I meant that they should pay for their accommodation just like anybody else working away from home for periods of time, not free with the job
Just purpose built for security reasons.
Though to keep the costs down maybe it should be housing benefit that they use to pay for such accommodation, so they are only entitled to live in the same sort of accommodation that benefit recipients are required to live in?
Many MP's do work hard and are very good constituency MP's. Though what many of them now dream of is the consultancy work that they get once they leave parliament so even paying them minimum wage would not discourage them. Tony Blair is alleged to have earned £10 Million a year since leaving office. So a few years on minimum wage to be replaced with £1 million a year consultancy work is well worth the sacrifice for an average MP.It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
I wonder if MP's really need to come to London at all?
Could the whole of parliament not be done as a video conference?0 -
Hard to do back-room deals, in formerly smoke filled rooms, via video.
Those of us who work primarily by teleconference and video conference are happy to confirm it is hard to do ANY deal via video conference....

The biggest danger to us in this country now is not lack of drinking water or food - it's our own government. And we silly sods have the vote so we put them there. Anybody who votes tory seriously needs their head looked.
Vote for food banks!
Vote for sanctions!
Vote for zero hours contracts!
Aye right. More like Vote for Revolution lol. It's all well and good talking of growing your own food and being self sufficient in veg etc - but what if you live in a multi story flat in a huge city in England? You're stuffed. No chance at all and at the mercy of TPTB.
Did I get out of bed on the wrong side this morning? lol0 -
I loathe all politicians equally, but as I was walking through a very prosperous village in a safe Tory seat yesterday, I came across an interesting handwritten piece of paper pinned up outside the parish hall, I presume it was talking about local polls:
Latest Opinion Polls
Labour 36%
Conservative 34%
UKIP 16%
Others 14% (6 parties)
The election might throw up a few quirks ...2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Whatever you think on a personal level about parties, politicians and party manifestos, whoever inherits the government of this land after the general election will still face the same problems that exist now and coalitions as we've seen with this government don't work as party policy blocks many things, sometimes rightly and sometimes not. This world is in a MESS, all of it and this country is no exception. I don't have even a glimmer of a solution but no one party no matter how good its intentions can hope to right things. It needs for ALL of us, politicians and populace to actually become adults and ALL be part of the solution, finding it and implementing it too!!!0

Well said Lyn.
I don't normally comment on politics, but these political parties, during the last couple of weeks, have made promises which anyone with any sense would know, they cannot keep.
I honestly don't know what the solution is, but these people are paid vast amounts of money, in most cases have had a wonderful education, surely they can come up with something which would put our country on track again.
