Thank you for the good wishes - it goes with territory sometimes.
The day is officially over (until at least Tuesday).

You're right Twiglet Kittie is in my thoughts and I hope she's doing ok.
If you're lurking Bob, let us know your ok, I can't remember you being quiet for this long.
Hope everyone else is doing ok - I'm going to try and get some kip

The flat I found the guitar in had a dog.

Today I've been cleaning the kitchen wall, floor & worktop to the side of the sink where there are no units but just a worktop above the washing machine, tumble drier & water softener.

OMG, I don't think my tenant has swept there since he moved in in 2010.

Everything is thick with grease & dog hair! :(

I just left the tumble drier hose to soak in the bath, but have only done a tiny bit with water and kitchen cleaner. (No point in hoovering as the grease sticks everything together.)

    Any suggestions?
Have you tried a bucket or bath filled with vinegar solution? Dirt cheap and can clean many things.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

On reading the raspberry jelly/beetroot jelly line. Reminded me that I need to use up some fruit from last years supply. ( Got enough wine!) Not to keen on beetroot on it's own but added to other things it's nice.
So made a beetroot/raspberry/rhubarb/blackberry jelly jam! It's not to firm and taste absolutely delish, a big helping on some toast. Used a sieve to strain overnight, added some sugar to the juice and boiled till it crinkled a bit on a saucer. So thanks for that Lyn, not your recipe but did jog my brain to mix and match! :D
  • Today saw the first plantings in the Polytunnel of basil and peas and we've sawn up and stacked the last of the wombled wood we had in the bottom rickety shed. He Who Knows has just wanderd in and said 'I wonder if we could fit in another load of logs, I'll have a consilidate of our cradles and see what we can do', this from the man who has just sawn up an entire roof? I warn you, if you get yourselves a woodstove you'll never have enough wood, even when you have enough wood!!!

Trouble is, as fast as you collect wood, some idiot comes along and burns it....:D

  • I need to build an extension to my log store so I can split the last of the bits of tree that are still on my patio 18 months after they were felled. Then I might be able to get the garden furniture out of the shed and actually use the patio this year...

So, today - 1/2 kilo onion sets planted along with numerous garlic cloves.

Now I think we have a field of onions and not room for much else. Damn - am going to have to dig yet another bed for other stuff.

Still - will ward off the colds next autumn - Onions a plenty :D

Also Mrs BHB has been sowing in the polytunnel - seeds that is, cause DD1 does any sewing if I can't do it :rotfl:

3 cockerels 'knobbled' and in the freezer.

Discussions about rainwater, and several other self sufficiency items today.

All in all another good SHTF prepping day ...... though we did pinch a tin of frankfurters from the store yesterday - just cause I fancied 'em! :o
