Beats me why adults can't keep hold of passcards. I have one; when I'm working it's on a lanyard around my neck, at all other times it lives in a side-pocket of my handbag.
Not exactly onerous. If you're an adult you have to be alert enough to keep hold of doorkeys, bank cards, your mobile phone, memorise PIN numbers and passwords but you can't be trusted to keep hold of a workplace passcard? Doesn't compute as far as I'm concerned.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Sensible approach to take
That's pretty much how mobile boarding passes work for flights.
There's a lot of technology in this space. So why go for something so simple? If I told you that informally we rate technologies for 'creepiness factor' then you'll probably understand the way things are heading.
Companies aren't looking for the simplest or least intrusive option.
But they also have their reasons. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
I quite agree, there are plenty of ways of confirming identity without resorting to implants. You can get an app to use facial recognition to unlock an iphone and it companies want to improve security there are retinal scanners and I've recently heard of one that uses the pattern of veins on the back of your hand. It will take concerted opposition from libertarian groups and employees to avoid such things becoming widespread, IMO, and I don't know whether there is the will outside select groups to achieve that.I have to admit that I like my fruit very ripe , especially bananas which have more potassium when the outside is going black.
Checking over the household preps, does anyone have advice on how often to change water stores over? I have water in 25L plastic containeres, with a drop of bleach added when stored, in a cool dark place. I'm thinking to change the water every six months, does that sound about right? Wouldn't want to have a crisis and find it unusuable, although just as with out-of-date food, it woiuld probably be drinkable unless it were green with algae.0 -
if they brought micro chipping in at the work place, it could then spread to governments tracking every single movement you make, as I presume it would be a unique id, so then each lamppost, shop entrances, public transport etc could have a detector on it to track you, or even worse, it will be like a tracking device you can get for your car, mobile phone etc...
sounds far fetched?? well I would have though that micro chipping your employees was as far fetched as you can get lol..
or has someone been watching too many syfi filmsWork to live= not live to work0 -
At DS school all children have to use their thumbprint to buy lunch. We have been assured that these part prints can not be used for anything else and will be taken off the system when they leave school. Can you hear the sound of hollow laughter? This was sold to parents as much easier and of course little Johnny cannot lose his lunch money or have it taken off him by a bully. I'd do something about the bullies and make little Johnny be a bit more responsible so that he looks after his cash and belongings a bit better! It's the thin end of the wedge. It makes children think that this is normal so the next step of chipping would seem ok.Not dim

I would think that THE worst case scenario even re microchipping could be "dealt with" - as in if Push Came To Shove (ie blackmailed by firm/government/etc) to have one inserted against will, then insist its done under local anaesthetic only/in arm (rather than hand).
After that:
- make a habit of wearing long sleeves at work to hide fact of having found friendly medic to apply local anaesthetic/remove it and attach it to something (an armband?) that could be worn underneath those long sleeves
- remove armband when outside work.
Probably why the powers-that-be wouldn't dare go that far, because there are some of us capable of that bit of lateral thinking and...bingo...would be walking around as per normal minus any microchips iyswim.0 -
Would micro chips mean that people could be instantly stopped from accessing benefits or medical care or access to buildings? I'm not technical and I don't understand how these things work but working on the assumption that things like electronic keys to hotel rooms can be cancelled and invalidated on handing them in at reception would it be possible to make that happen with micro chip technology? If so what a powerful tool for TPTB to hold over the population, what complete power it would give over all of us, or have I read too many SI FI books?0

Ditto.
Mine's one of these.
Cost me £8.
If I want to send an email, or surf the net, I have a PC and a Laptop for that.0 -

I suspect that the government will use it to block access to services, like benefits or access to medical services. Not sure how that will go down with foreigners working here. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Think about it - you could have the ultimate divide between the haves and have-nots. The haves are chipped and live in fear of falling from grace and of their chips being de-activated, the ultimate unpersonhood in a controlled society. HG Wells would be spinning in his grave.
I'm surprised that no one has thought about making plastic tags for human ears, like cattle. Could be a new fashion.
I've always thought havng body mods like tatts and some other things pretty daft as well; makes a person far too memorable.
The ultimate in greypersonhood was a lass I was at college with for 3 years. She was average everything in appearance and faded out of view in any gathering of more than one person. I couldn't remember her name then and I certainly can recall nothing about her now. If she wasn't recruited by M Eye Five, all I can say is that they missed a great opportunity. :rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
