Hopefully 2015 is interesting (not in the Chinese sense) but with fewer scares and the S staying well away from the fan.
Thank you all for your company, ideas and inspirations in 2014 and I look forward to the same in 2015.0 -
I'll see you all next year.0

To be honest I am glad as well. We may all be prepping for different things and some are less likely than others but if that zombie apocalypse strikes I will be laughing. Most of my preps are to do with financial collapse and the drop in income that will follow and I am almost ready. If things hold off for a while longer I will be able to cope with much more. So while my family laugh at my energy reduction measures I will be able to cope with a big increase in heating costs if they happen. They have been on a steady increase for years now and with wages being stagnant for the majority since 2003 in real terms they will take a bigger slice of our income in future years. It might be slow but when it happens I will be ahead of the curve. If we have massive power cuts and gas supply problems over a nasty winter I have my thermals, hot water bottles, onesies and sleeping bag with legs to help me cope. By the end of 2015 I will also have a big cash pile to help me through any bank bail in. If things hold together longer then I will be even better prepared.
Only a few years ago I had nearly £20 000 in debts and will be debt free in June of July, and still prepped at the same time. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Evening all.
The other day someone mentioned CC41 price control goods as being particularly good quality. You were quite right. I just received two unused sheets, and a blanket, and they are gorgeous.
I'm sure the sheets will boil wash perfectly, but I am a little worried about washing the blanket. I know it was not machine washable wool in those days. Would it survive a machine wool wash at 30C, or should I try to hand wash it?0 -

The issue with washing machines isn't just the temperature, it's the torque; some textiles can't stand being twisted around in the drum. Most washers have a gentle 'wool cycle' but I wouldn't want to risk this item myself. I would treadle-wash it with a specialist wool washing product in the bath tub with tepid water.
It's a bit of a faff, to put it mildly, and not the ideal time of the year to do it, being as it's cold and the days are short for drying things. HTH.
And am about to pootle off for the remainder of the year - I shall see y'all in 2015, hopefully with the heating back on.........:pEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning All and Happy New Year. Been reading along as usual.
Thanks for all the info and useful posts through last year. You've all helped me a lot. Makes me wonder how many people do just actually read but don't post. Must be loads.
Have now ditched the big boot and am managing with a walking stick but am mindful not to get ahead of myself again by overdoing things. All healed but physio will take some time.
Take care all and here's to a good 2015 xNot dim.....just living in soft focus
