Just wishing you all a merry xmas and prosperous new year....had to book a taxi for 7am till 3pm tomorrow .... at least can have xmas dinner with dad..... how long can opec keep their curent production levels to maintain their market share..... will it kill off fracking? if they do win ...bet prices will rise to near 200 dollars a barrel as they try to recoup losses..... beware the rebound

    Merry Christmas everyone.

I do not expect super high prices of oil once the frackers are gone. It might be a $120 to $150. Above that it hits the world economy again. Though I expect it to rise again within 9 months or so. Opec are not really able to produce enough oil rapidly to cause chaos or choke it off too quickly. Fracking is only viable with zero percent interest rates and they are spending more to drill than they get in revenue so fracking is not viable in a real world market.

Here is a prepping tip. I seriously doubt that many here will ever get the chance to use it, but just in case.

All DDs ( and new SIL) here for Christmas.

Friend of DH's has delivered home reared goose this morning and gave him a steak and mushroom pie I baked and some little cakes that DD had made which he seemed pleased with. Also got huge leeks which made leek and potato soup and baked a loaf to go with
    it.

After a bacon sarnie breakfast DDs and SIL have been out most of the day and played board game when they got back and had soup and bread and snacks etc. DH joined in and after all the excitement has been fast asleep since half past eight.

Managed to wrap all the presents and could only find three of the five stockings so instead of getting stressed I made two out of wrapping paper. Stockings are now on kitchen table ready for morning.

Hope everyone has a Happy Christmas and hugs to all.

Goose should be fat enough already without feeding him pies & cakes, shouldn't he? :)

Also as Maggie destroyed the power of unions she destroyed the influence it had on other workers wages. It is the lack of power that all workers now suffer from that makes deflation inevitable.
In 1986 Maggie eviscerated the Wages Councils, limiting them to setting a single adult rate for an industry. (When I was first involved in retail, the wages councils set rates for various skills and training within an industry) as a result differentials were rapidly eroded. In '93 Major abolished the Wages Councils (with the possible exception of Agriculture if memory serves) Labour retaliated two years later with the National Minimum Wage.
I have been rethinking the oil price collapse. I am not thinking conspiracy any longer. There is a slump in demand everywhere, and you can see that in the cost of shipping freight rates. The Baltic index which is a guide to the cost of shipping a container is as low as it was in 2009 at the depth of the world recession.

Never blame conspiracy for that which can be adequately explained by stupidity and incompetence.
A combination of world recession and over supply explain a lot. OPEC aren't cutting supply, because there is a huge surplus - cutting supply wouldn't drive prices up, but would make it more profitable for the other companies in the business. In the interim it makes sense for OPEC to play the long game and hope it drives some competitors out of the market.

In the meanwhile, may I hope that 2015 doesn't challenge anyone's preparedness and you all enjoy any seasonal celebrations.
