To be honest i think the majority will look after themselves first, others second.

Looting and more disgusting crimes happened a lot in WW2 but people don't like to admit it. It was just ignored and life went back to normal.
Also back then people knew they neighbours, nowadays they don't.

I remember one year when a village some people i know lived in got cut off. No one rallied together, it was truly awful. THey had lived in this village since being kids but were still treated like outsiders. Awful way of thinking.

Me, i'm a sap, i try to help everyone.

This is why I picked not that small a place to move to and one that has plenty of other incomers. That way, there's plenty of people in same situation just in case....but I'm surprised they didn't find anyone with "objective thinking" and treating them fairly. I do come across the odd person who thinks "us first and they aren't 'our tribe' " but most locals imo are fair-minded and helpful to everyone equally (as should be the case).

Imo its the more educated/cosmopolitan/etc locals that are fairer in their attitude and treat everyone equally from what I've seen to date.

There are no incomers in our village. We all live here as part of the whole community and if someone is new then they are made very genuinely welcome. We have lived here for 4 years and everyone mixes as much as they want. We have no cliques, apart from the dog walking group

We are all of the same ethnicity and the village is based around the tiny church and the village hall. We have lots of functions and so on as we don`t have a pub or shop and because we are a small community we do try harder to meet with other local people

Some really good advice given to me was to keep a bit detached and I have done that as it saves having to get out of a relationship that isn`t really my cup of tea. I have seen the good side of people here, the fund raising to get someone a vital piece of kit after an accident, the support when people are diagnosed with a devastating illness etc and the communal cooking that goes on for a harvest supper etc

Anyway I can provide the dehydrated veg, another neighbour the water from a spring, another the cooking from their solid fuel range. Others will provide side splitting entertainment

But I hope to god that we never ever need to survive a pandemic or mass terrorism, the short term stuff will be ok. I say the same as mrs LW, live in the moment and enjoy life as it is

FluTrackers is in an uproar about the mess Dallas has made of this whole thing. I think that its inevitable that it will get to the UK, and I've done a big online shop so that we can avoid going out if need be.

Mar, you're usually so laid back, that speaks to me more than anything else, that you're doing a big shop.
