If things went rotten and stayed like that, a lot of people would die of illnesses which are presently managable.
Many would, but many current illnesses are genetically transmitted. That obviously would stop.A lot of women and infants would die in childbirth.
No, you'll never go back to that. Why? Because we now *know* things. We know it's not miasma that causes disease, but bacteria and viruses. And the chemical with the biggest positive impact on bacteria control? Soap. Antibiotics play a very distant second fiddle.People would contract infections which are presently treatable and die of those.
Until they started being careful, and started washing their hands after going to the toilet (for example). Mr Darwin would remind the persistent offenders.Never underestimate the power of humanity to adjust itself to the circumstances.
Exactly. And to make those circumstances better."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Kittie, I often have similar conversations with OH who although is v supportive of my preppy nature has a tendency to question whether we need more of this or that. Space is a bit of a problem in a small modern house and he's desperate for me to de clutter and gets a bit agitated when I start filling the spaces I've created. However its so satisfying when I reach for something and its there in times of need.
I've also given up trying to justify or argue and just get on with shopping and squirrel it all away when it's delivered. Most of our provisions are for the times when poor health or financial probs prevent us from getting out or affording things.
MrsLurcherwalker and Mojisola, some interesting points made. I find if I think to hard about all the possibilities and outcomes of this crazy world my head feels like it will pop. A part of me thinks of what would be needed in an extreme society meltdown where all the infrastructure we rely on daily ceases, but in reality we have neither the health or finances to prep like survivalists.
I think what's important is to be willing and able to adapt, to make the most of what is available and to remain positive and hopeful.
Should the worse case scenario happen then initially I think a portable water filter of some sort, food and a method of cooking with the ability to light a fire and shelter would be amongst the most important things to have. Along with a form of lighting, a solar wind up radio and a nice selection of multi tools etc.
I think we might watch survivors again.
We bought the box set a couple of years back as I remembered it from my early teens and I'm sure it affected my developing mind set back then, shaping me into how I think today. It might be a bit dated now, but it still seems as relevant especially with current events unfolding. I can't decide whether the ptb are creating more panic and blowing things out of proportion via the media or whether the grubbyment is just incompetent in handling things, but either way it's the pharma that will gain huge profits by this. With more freedoms lost and control over us creeping in and whilst we focus on this latest fear event and other stuff will pass many by unnoticed.
craigywv, your gardening successes sound wonderful and your elation has travelled the interweb and been a real lift, thank you. As with others triumphs shared here its an inspiration and hopefully next year if all goes to plan I shall be able to grow stuff again. I so miss the child like excitement and pride of harvesting home grown.0 -

No I wasn't referring to you:o, sorry. In fact your tea sounds just the ticket on a day like to day. Wish I had a pie I could bung in the oven too. Feeling hungry and totally unprepared for tonights meal. Nothing defrosted and a late start today meant toast at tea time and prob a sarny later:(0 -
Not you Danih. I meant the person with an avatar with an exposed boob.
No problem. I'm gone."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

That's ok then. Love this thread, lurk a lot more then my minimal posts suggest. Would be v unsettled if I'd said anything to annoy someone.
Siegemode - hope your evening meal turns out to be much nicer then a sarny!:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -
A troll is someone who posts nasty or hurtful comments. If you look at some of ZTD' s posts you will see someone who enjoys a good debate and a bit of banter. Certainly not a troll, and we've seen a few of those on this site at times. Why not address the points made? After all, if TSHTF we can only guess what the effects would be, and prepare for the most probable. One life - your life - live it!0
