Hopefully Stan, your experience will spur on others to plan for a power cut.

Did someone mention Dutch Ovens?0

The trees down here in Hampshire are more laden with berries than I've ever seen before, the hawthorns and ivy particularly and the holly is magnificent this year along with the pyracantha and rowans. We'll see if the bad winter in a good berry year theory proves itself this year won't we?0

I've been reading this thread for soooo long and trying to prep but at the moment (and for the foreseeable) I'm a bit 'fiscally challenged' and so preps have been used up in tight months and the camping stove hasn't been bought yet...but it bleddy well will now! The thought of a sandwich for dinner didn't excite me and I have very little else that doesn't require cooking of some sort!
Bit gutted about the LED light your testing actually, I thought that would be really handy...I did buy two LED bulbs in Aldi today for £5.99, they are 4.5w so perfect for the lamps in the living room which are used most.. If I'm happy with them I'll get the brighter ones for the ceiling lights...one at a time though, nearly £10 for a lightbulb is expensive!DMP journey about to begin...

No offence intended.Another variant of this is Experience keeps a dear school, but fools will learn in no other.
Shedloads of berries on the trees around my way this year, but I have seen plenty of mild winters following such scenes, and have heard naturalists say it's more a sign of a good spring and summer than a forewarning of a harsh winter.
I really hope there isn't a harsh winter in Europe this year as I expect some fun and games with the supply of gas to various countries who are on the wrong side of the Russian Bear. We live in interesting times.
Reading about ebola gives me the horrors, because there seems to be such ignorance and imcomptetance among medical professionals. You have people who have been knowlingly in contact with Ebola patients out and about in the community for a week, complaining of illness and no one joins the dots?! That Liberian man now in the US and that nurse in Madrid.
Seems to me that we'll be left with no more resources to cope than the poor beggars in the Middle Ages had with the Black Death, since no one seems to be telling the truth about the method of transmission, why so many docs and nurses have got it despite protective gear and a why the hell they didn't close the borders of the affected countries to all exits.
I still think the Hajj pilgrims will be in danger of contracting it and bringing it back to their home countries.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

When visiting family in Finland this summer the Rowan trees were absolutely covered and my auntie said that that's a sign of a bad winter, it's mother natures way of making sure the birds have enough to eat, I haven't seen a Rowan down here in the South West but I would listen to mother nature xDMP journey about to begin...

It'll still be handy, just not as a general emergency light.
I'll be keeping it as a lamp to cook by.
Given its massive light output, it'll be perfect for such short time usage. :cool:one at a time though, nearly £10 for a lightbulb is expensive!
Aldi is your friend.

We're not even 12 hours into the test, and the light level has fallen considerably.
It's still usable but, for how long, I really don't know.
I'll be surprised if it's still running (let alone usable) by the 24 hour point.
I would try it with other batteries.
