Preparedness for when

HAPPYDAY let them laugh now, let them enjoy the joke, let them pour scorn and derision on your good common sense. You will be able to laugh much longer and louder when they come cap in hand to your doorstep, if the can get there in a crisis that is, because their supplies have been exhausted and they are hungry and cold. He who laughs last my dear, laughs the longest!!!0

Of course, it could be that their laughter is covering up genuine curiosity; that somewhere inside they too have noticed how fragile our current arrangements are & they're wondering where to start prepping themselves.[/QUOTE]
Thanks for your kind words, they don't watch the news, they can't be bothered. They live in their own little bubble where life is fab and nothing will ever happen to them. They live in an all electric house,so I hope we don't have power cults.Thankfully my son isn't aware of the hidden stuff in my locked cupboard in my bedroom.I tend to prep for loss of income, power ect,not the end of the world so I don't think I am excessive,I never talk about prepping ect.My friend turned up when I was sorting the shed out and saw all the loo rolls, washing powder, and cleaning stuff I had,I told her I stock up if I see it at a good price and she started to do the same so I would let her know if there was a good offer on.After this I won't mention the news or tell her about any offers.0 -
Happydays...
I sort of get the same.. when I mention certain things.. like when I said I wanted to buy my parents a camping stove and some gas, just incase there are power shortages/cuts.. and our friend looked at me as though my head was on fire lol.. he must have been thinking 'what a stupid present' but when I explained to him that this 'might' be a possibility in the future, and as my parents are in their late 60's, early 70's I don't want them to get caught out with this, and at least they could warm some water/food up etc.. I did say it wouldn't go to waste even if it wasn't used, as my boys could borrow it to go camping in the summer..
after that, he went quiet, and you could see he was now starting to think it through.. he went out and bought a BBQ in the sale last week, and charcoal reduce... and he told us he hadn't thought about what they would do if there were power cuts etc.. so he bought a BBQ.. as he said he would use that in the summer anyway..
Some people just cant think further than the weekend.Work to live= not live to work0 -
hi all been missing for a while just reading and nothing constructive to add so just lurking. we had extremely strong winds last night and rain came down this morning to a one man tent perched in tree in my back garden!!!!!!!!!! ok so either I have a neighbour who is sleeping rough or someones child has lost their play house either way I have put a sign on my gate that its here, its a good one guy ropes still had the pegs attached lol so you can imagine how windy it was here.my garden is all messy and I need to go out and hop the heads of a lot of my plants and tidy up the veg patch . my spuds are growing like crazy .I have learnt not to tell anyone about my prepping as my family tend to think im bonkers anyway and I agre I shall prob be the one laughing last. just keeping to immediate family is enough as that's probally all I could help if the shtf I don't have masses to do the neighbourhood. enough to keep me and mine ok and fed for a good while. I don't mean to sound mean but im not the one sitting with the new I phone 6 or whatever its called my phone is 8 years old and still going ,granted it has to get banged on the table every now and then to surge life into the battery. unlike my next door neighbour who just HAD to get it or her life wasn't worth living! so she told me.yeah that's while her electric box is always beeping as no credit and she always asking me for a couple of quid on a sunday so she can pay the school fees on Monday morning............a whole 4 pounds, smokes like a train and buys take away nearly every night...................ok ENOUGH ranting sorry about that, anyway I hear she is moving house after the new year so she can beg of someone else. sorry again sort of went into rant mode there. have a good day all xxxC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Just a quick post while I still have the wifi....my notebook is on battery as its not safe to have anything plugged in at the moment. Have the most horrendous storm system over us and we have rain so bad that it is coming through the wall and down the chimney. It has been since early this morning. I went out to get my mop and bucket and almost got struck by lightning! Gave me a real scare, I am not going out there again! You can watch it live at this link http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/index.php?lang=en
All flights are cancelled as they could not keep circling, some have been trying to land for hours then aborting the landing. The folks stuck at the airport have been moved to hotels as this is forecast to last till Wednesday:eek:
No ferries and no flights means we are cut off ...so no deliveries either ....not that I would go out to the shops in this.....so thrilled I have lots of stocks in of everything.
Looks like Ireland has been hammered by the gales and it is moving to Scotland and the UK, so stay safe and warm folks xxxx0 -
Stay safe 1T, how scary, also stay indoors!!!0

You mean we are on the outskirts of this, down here in the far south of England? I've just been merrily dodging falling branches & flooded drains as well as the usual lunatic drivers who assume they MUST drive at 60mph in a 30, with no lights on, in case their car gets wet...
Hope you are all safe & dry elsewhere!Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

I would be having words with your son. Not only letting everyone know your business but making fun of you to boot!!!!!
DH is exasparated when he sees me buy candles or tea lights but had to admit the solar lights from I**a were fantastic when we had a powercut of over an hour and dd had friends over. He took a couple of the lamps into the dining room and a cheer went up before they all settled down and played board games etc.
He was reluctantly impressed last year when next door had water turned off for a repair and ours also was off and I produced a big bottle of water from shelves and made him some tea.
House is now up for sale and we hope to downsize but I still want to find space for emergency stuff and or bargains."This site is addictive!"

Having had to manage for just one winter's day without electricity a couple of years ago made me realise the value of being prepared. We have a gas fire and gas hob so weren't too cold and could cook but cooking by candlelight was a bit of a challenge and I couldn't read by it.
We're up a hill in the Peak District so do have snowy days when we can't drive down to the shops . A new neighbour moved in a few months ago . I've never seen her walk anywhere so am wondering how she'll manage in bad weather.0 -
It's a bit wild up here - we cancelled the shop lol - NO SWEETIES! this is serious SHTF stuff!!!0
