Preparedness for when

Blight alright, apparently he saw a little on the plants yesterday but didn't think it was too bad. We did have 2 degrees out there this morning though so it may have been cold temperatures as well as blight. Never mind I've got all the useable fruit off and I'll have a mammoth chutney making session tomorrow as I've found a tray of jars in the storeroom that I'd forgotten I had.0

I've just hoicked in the very last of the blackberries at the end of the garden - still nice & sweet, despite last night's coolth - and am going to hurtle up the stepladders & gather in any grapes I can reach, broken toe notwithstanding. (Although I shall be standing with it, naturally.) According to the forecast, here comes the rainy season!Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

She remembers me, apparently, as 'very clever' which is flattering since we were 40 to a class.
We were taught in classes of 30+,and every single one of us left junior school (aged 11), able to read, write, spell and do maths, which is more than many can these days, despite the smaller class sizes.0 -

......Wasn't there some dramatist in Ancient Athens who had a crowd-pleasing exhortation in one of his comedies to the effect of let's kill all the lawyers?
Have downloaded this from the iplayer to watch later:

Not exactly prepping, but on the MSE front am pleased to report that have paid off my credit card (it has taken about 2 years of continued effort) so only the mortgage to pay down now. I guess that is prepping of a sort, for the possibility of interest rates going up - likely to be next year from what I've read.0 -
Hello All
Just checking in as I havent posted for ages.
Re meds I have tried to build up some pills as I would hate to go through "cold turkey" without having the chance to reduce slowly. They are for mental health issues, mainly strange anxiety that happens when I am relaxed, at home after any stressful event. The symptoms are quiet scary , sweating, lack of sleep, shaking, severe nerves etc etc but strangely they happen more when I am home away from the percieved threats. Doctors and Mental health team have failed to find triggers or reasons they just want to increase /change drug dosages which I resist strongly! In a shtf situation I would head to my local pharmacies and if neccessary loot what I needed plus opiates and anti biotics, ok not community spirited but needs must.
Prepping wise I have added to my candle stash and paraffin lamps plus oil to light them. Today went to the BSale and came away with a really strong small garden fork for £1, paracord bracelet for 25p, 8 candles 50p and a couple of craft books 50p each.
Local CS has been a good source of warm throws, a really nice fluffy throw for £4 , weekend bag £4 (packed ready to bug out), several preserving jars for 50p each and a nice 100% wool blanket.
Middle son seems to be picking up on my prepping/survival interest although I havent discussed it with him. Picked up a nice survival book for him and he has read it avidly along with the sas survival book I foubnd in the CS.
Today we both went on a bee keeping taster session designed to find out if we have the b*lls to keep bees or if we bolt the first time one lands on us!:rotfl:We both found it fascinating and neither of us ran for it! We have a hive by default as OH rescued one from an old allotment site he was clearing, they have sat for 2 years minding their own business. We have now decided to start looking after them properly and hopefully we will have honey and wax in the future. We have an 8 week course to attend so that we have some knowledge on how to look after them.
I am continuing to learn, very slowly, how to sew. We have set up our own group as the local council has increased fees by about 50%!! and cut the number of courses running all in the spirit of money saving and cuts.
I have decided in a SHTF situation and my meds were limited or non existant that alcohol would be the answer although I would not be sure of the question! Self medication with home brew/hooch etc would perhaps mitigate the symptoms of withdrawal or result in me being so sh*tfaced I wouldnt care!:rotfl:Sorry if last comment offends anyone but it is true!
Oh just remembered another BS find today a really , really sharp penknife with other blades etc for £1 although I will have to be careful as its in my handbag and I may get "done" by police for carrying a weapon. TBH where I work you really need some sort of protection in broad daylight let alone the dark evenings that are nearly upon us.
Anyway keep prepping and hoping for the best, Elaine x

A friend called in for coffee today, and proceeded to tell me how she and one of her friends had a good laugh at my prepping,:mad:she was telling the friend how I supplied her with masks and a 5ltr bottle of hand gel when the bird flu scare was on a few years ago,and how I am prepared for anything it didn't help matters when my son called in to help her move a heavy sofa and he joined in the fun informing them that I could feed a lot of people for about 10 years. They said they new where they would head if there was any SHTF disasters,I am so cross about it,I wouldn't mind but I don't mention what I have or discuss any problems with anyone.so I have decided to let her believe I don't have any preps anymore because nothing bad will happen.i don't like being made out I am some mad paranoid woman.:eek:0

Not a very nice friend but you'll have the last laugh!'Yaze whit yeh hive an ye'll niver wahnt'

happydays89, I don't think you're the mad one! I'd be looking sideways at anyone who lives in a society with so many warning signs & chooses to bury their heads in the sand. But I think I'd have a stern word with your son; he needs to know that not everyone will think you're daft, they'll just think that you've saved them the bother of prepping, as they can just come & batten on you if trouble comes.
Of course, it could be that their laughter is covering up genuine curiosity; that somewhere inside they too have noticed how fragile our current arrangements are & they're wondering where to start prepping themselves.Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
