i think labour saw the unpopular cuts that had to be made and thought, naw let the tories have this one and were intentionally rude to the liberals...so they would run to the tories and juggle the hot potato together...... one political commentator said "The Liberals have the best seat on a crashing plane"

    Hi all,

Been away for a while as life got a bit hectic and all, but just couldn't stay away :D.

Only read back the last couple of pages and interesting to see the political discussion. I went to a talk about the TTIP yesterday and quite frankly, when that goes through ( and it's 99% certain to) it won't matter who is in power as they'll have none. They won't be able to make decisions about the country without the risk of being sued by foreign investors. There will be no NHS as that's unfair (how can the poor foreign companies compete effectively with a subsidised system!!!), or if those companies think that the tax is too high, the minimum wage is too high, environmental protection laws are too strict or just about anything else, they can sue the government - and the government doesn't even have to tell us!!! Democracy is about to become irrelevant and hardly anyone even knows about it let alone is discussing it. Very scary indeed.

And on that cheery note I'm off to bed. I will drop by more often ( and will try to be a bit more cheery). x

How do you store your preps?

I have a mismanaged hoard building up. I live in a very average mid terrace house, and prob best to store a category of stuff per room - candles on top of main bedroom wardrobe, water in cupboard under stairs, etc.

    Tips please
I would keep it where it make sense. I have my dried food ingredients like flour and rice in airtight food barrels. I do store some of my food preps in the kitchen in those supermarket delivery crates but I will be eating the contents and returning the crates.

I would say it is treasonous.

Now, there's a word out of the historical dictionary.:rotfl:

Just checked for the definition of that and the first one that google came up with was "the crime of betraying one's country, especially by attempting to....over throw the government".

Yep...put like that...it qualifies as treason I would say, even if the word would be "over-ride" rather than "overthrow". Same difference. The effect is the same.

4 people have now been quanretined in the us regarding the ebola virus

    http://time.com/3456050/ebola-texas/

in theory, if this virus is getting uncontrollable, and can not be contained,i know there are certain parts of sierra leone that are in lock down so to speak, but why don't they just stop all people going in or out of Africa? to try and stop this going world wide?

  • It's probably already too late to stop it, there have been flights in and out of Africa to the rest of the world since the first case was reported and we've had so very few scares compared to the number of people who have come out of the region. I'm sure the medical authorities are monitoring the situation and there will be contingency plans in place. No guarantee that there won't be outbreaks in the rest of the world but our infrastructure and lifestyles along with the medical care available should make the likelihood of it spreading unchecked very small. Not to worry too greatly CTC but stay vigilant and make sure you apply the highest standards of hygiene to all areas, you'll be fine poppet, just fine.

I think that we will be far better off because of the NHS, and our news broadcasting. The real impact will be on the economy, should it spread. It could mean no more commuting and advising people to avoid crowds, which is not good for jobs, so many people will probably be laid off rather than pay wages.

Here's a question out of left field that I've been thinking about for a while ... it sort of ties in to the Grey approach too. What can be grown in the house/on the windowsills thats helpful in prepping? Obviously, its good to start some seedlings off in cooler rooms of the house. But otherwise? Aloe vera for skin complaints; spider plants to detox the air; basil plants in spring and summer, or other Mediterranean herbs, when our climate turns against them; sprouts and shoots; carrot tops :) ; but are there any other standard house plants that peeps can think of?
