Preparedness for when

On the morning news came the announcement that some 400 Iraqui soldiers had been massacred by these extremists, whatever name they give themselves or are given by the media. They are cold blooded murderers who are equally prepared to slaughter thier own people as any others they come across. This an evil too great to be borne and they need to be halted by any means available to the world for humanitys sake.0

Approaching 8 days, and the lamp is very dull, but still lit.0

I tend to think if the west had minded its own business and got on with its own affairs then none of this would have started. But its too late to say that now..0

Totally agree MAR but you can't turn back the clock and we now have this threat to deal with, wish we didn't but you can't ignore it and we've the same threat to our safety as every other country in the western world. There is an awful lot that I deplore about western civilisations but I don't want to expunge them from the face of the earth, I'd like to see behavioural and lifestyle changes but not extermination of whole nations just because they're there.0

I agree too - we started it, and so we have to finish it. With however heavy a heart.
on another note - DD leaves for Uni tomorrow. She is in halls for two years.
I don't think she is going to allow me to put too much SHTF stuff in her room, so any suggestions as a bare "don't look too crazy" minimum?
i have one of those lanterns that Bob has on test with spare batteries. I might get away with a bottle of water or two. She has the usual paracetomol, plasters etc and a spare fleece blanket for her bed. She will have some supplies of pasta, tea bags - but clearly when money gets tight, these won't be replaced except on an "as needed" basis.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I don't know if it just FB being FB, but I seen a post saying that Russia are now getting involved .. re- is
I really think people should start thinking about potential backlash ..As it is the case of when, rather than if.
Think about the timing... if we, and other countries start bombing in the next few days... the backlash will be happening when more and more people are going to be in city centres etc due to Christmas not to far away..
My youngest works in our nearest city, and I had the chat with him, re- be VERY aware of what is going on around him...but at 18 it might not have fully sunk in, but he is a sensible kid though..
Maybe the meaning of winter of discontent will mean something else..Work to live= not live to work0 -
VJs mum, I was going to suggest a supermarket giftcard.. to be used only in Emergencies, so at least you know she will have money for food, but prob if it was my kids, they would buy booze with it lol..Work to live= not live to work0

VJsMUM a good pair of walking boots/shoes, a strong serviceable rucksack and a warm waterproof coat will get her out of the city. Cuppasoups, instant porridge pots, hot chocolate sachets, a jar of peanut butter and some long dated crispbreads/oatcakes will keepthe wolf from the door in an emergency and won't take up too much room and more to the point won't be seen as outlandish by her fellow students.
A rechargeable torch for her room in halls and a keyring torch ( preferably a solar one) to give her light if the power goes out would be very useful and also a swiss army type small multi tool penknife to go in a jacket/rucksack pocket would be a very useful thing to have if she ever has to make a swift exit and head for home.0 -
its depressing though that money can always be found to wage war.....but not to rescue starving pensioners and other low income vulnerable people.... who have to choose between eat or heat in this country.... not much kudos involved in domestic matters0

Some very good advice in this article, even though it is a nightmare scenario we all hope will never happen to us
