bit of a global red herring isis.... a convenient bogeyman..... the bigger threat is Ukraine way0

Will admit that every time ISIS are called IS I instantly add the rest of it. They can call themselves what they please, but I intend to restrict their title to including "Iraq and Syria" and not give them any false hopes they are going to get any more territory.:p. If they want to call themselves "Rulers of the Universe" that's up to them, but I prefer to call them a more "accurate"/put them right in their place type name iyswim.
It's amazing what is in just one little change of word or name and a whole different emphasis is laid on things and they don't quite come over the same way.
Ukraine isn't off the horizon as "possible blow-up time", but my personal feeling is behind those cold/bored eyes that a certain world leader has over in that direction there is some semblance of logic going on in that brain, if not logic we would necessarily agree with. Brains that have been "inflamed by ideology", rather than just financial/what can we grasp for ourselves type facts are an even harder "kettle of fish to fry" imo.0 -
bought some more leds yesterday and also an l.e.d keychain from poundland....... going out for a couple tonight practice my german at a stammtisch in Manchester .... a bit chilly and drizzly today.....enjoy your day
The good thing about LED is that they are so energy efficient. In torches they can extend the battery life considerably compared to the bulbs of the past.
If you switched over all your incandescent bulbs to LED you will save around 95% of the energy that you would have used before on lighting. Collectively it all adds up and allows you to keep the living costs down.
Then by reinvesting those savings in other things that will save you money will have a far higher return than keeping the money in the bank. For example you should aim to invest in things that have a high payback rate. If something can pay for itself within 12 months then it will have a rate of return of 100%. A lot higher than is what is available in the banks, plus tax free and permanent reduction in your cost of living. So if you do have spare cash rather than save it use it to pay down debts or invest it in something that cuts your cost of living. That way your ability to save will be enhanced further so if you do need to save for something your lower overheads will allow you to save far quicker. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
We are on a four day storm warning again....forecast to finish just after the weekend....typical! I feel so sorry for the tourists in this weather as the beach is out of the question and there is little entertainment on during the day.
Went shopping and bought some more goodies for my store cupboard. Found out the cheap tuna I bought last week on offer has three cans in the pack and not the two I thought. Bought myself a nice black polo neck jumper from Lidl for 5 euros and got it home to discover it was viscose, which I love. If I had known I would have got two in different colours to wear under thinner jumpers or a jacket.
Just making home made chicken korma in the slow cooker and the kitchen smells amazing, I have a yearning for good winter food when its dark and damp like it is today.
Hoping my neighbours harvested all their wine grapes before this rain started, the yields are right down this year and the wine will not be so good with the state of the grapes they did manage to save. It has turned much colder and there is talk the heating oil may be available earlier this year at a discount from the extortion last year.
Just found out the local ferries are now giving a big discount to locals for the ferry to the mainland. We have to register the car and prove we are resident, and can get up to 75% discount on the tickets all year round. It means we can afford to go to the lake in the mountains for Christmas, or even earlier if we fancy a trip. It wont be till the weather improves though, I am terrible if there is a slight wave on the sea LOL...can get sea sick on a lilo....:eek:0 -

De-lurking to ask more about LED light bulbs, I want to change over to these but I don't know if I have to do anything to my existing light fittings? I'm a complete div when it comes to anything that involves electricity, I can change a plug and screw in a lightbulb and that's about it!
Also...where is everyone? I'm missing my evening MSE prepping fix!
My sister thinks I'm nuts as I insist on having 6 tins of everything and my freezer is overflowing...I like coming here, it makes me feel normal! Definitely an ameteur prepper admittedly...but I do have two solar torchesDMP journey about to begin...

You need to find the LED lamps that have the same fitting as your existing ones. So if they are screw in, buy screw in; if they are small screw in (SES) buy those. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

I was wondering that. Then I thought, oh no, they're all off busy prepping, and I'm sitting here at the computer
That's a very good point! I have three cauliflowers kindly gifted to me by a neighbour that I need to cook and freeze down ...but I'm still here... waiting for my fix...DMP journey about to begin...

Sorry I was busy counting my loo rolls:) .
Not much in the way prepping done. Apart from, I brought myself a nice wool poncho . To keep warm while watching TV, or hunting which ever needs doing when the SHTF.
I'm trying to eat my freezer stocks down a little as I've been given a meat voucher for my local wholesale butcher and need to use it by the end of October. But no room in my freezer, I keep making meals from a small amount of bits then they have to be frozen , it's a perpetual problem.
