I know it's stupid, but that's the law.
Sorry, should have looked up UK laws before posting. Here it's legal to carry this knife. Still learning bear with me please. Thank you for the heads up BSB.0 -
Knife and gun laws here in Hairy Potter land have me scared. Apparently there is only one kind of knife that is illegal where I live. Concealed carrying of guns is common. Makes me wonder what I am prepping for because there is no chance of me being able to defend myself against people wanting to take my preps in a SHTF situation.0

Don't you mean illegal?
Oops, my mistake.
I didn't realise you were in Florida.0 -
Here in Greece the law says '' knives are considered weapons and are "illegal", except for kitchen , hunting , fishing , educational and professional use knives.''
Having said that, some of the hunting and fishing knives would have made Crocodile Dundee thrill with delight. Some of the hunting are huge, super sharp and serated...and up to a foot long!
It leaves a lot of room for interpretation....can throwing knives be classed as professional use for instance? If you become an expert?
The gun laws here are strange, people go hunting in the winter and shoot small birds and animals (mostly for eating ) and they think nothing of carrying a gun on a shoulder strap while they are riding a scooter. The only law I know of is that shotguns need a license and should not be shot within a few meters of a building.
Most of my neighbours have shot guns and use them for hunting, but they are also used at Easter and Weddings when they fire them into the air to celebrate. High powered airguns and pistols can be bought with just a registration at the gun shop.
The storms hit us at 10.45 last night, not a lot of rain but awesome lightning and a sudden gale force wind that howled through the village. We have sun this morning but it will not last long. The storms are due to keep coming back for the next few days. The airport was closed most of the night as many planes were coming in to land then aborting the landings....I am glad I was not on one of them! Have a lovely day folks xxx0 -

cardiff is beyond a joke too now, the city centre is fenced off and will be closed to entry/exit for 48hr. We have armed police patrolling the streets in squads and where I work (within 300yds of the castle) there is a static policeperson every 25metres, in addition to police in vans, on motorbikes, on horses, on bikes on foot patrolling. As residents avoid the city centre and more police, home grown security forces and the plains clothes security from NATO countries arrive I suspect by tomorrow they will outnumber civilians. They are checking cars into certain points of the city and my building along with a number of others is closed from tomorrow as we will have no access. An unbelievable number of helicopters are circling overhead - there was one yesterday that I've never seen before which is apparently "marine one" (but who knows) and we have warships coming to the bay. School openings have been delayed for the start of the term. I know it isn't comparable to the Berlin wall, palestine, or parts of NI during the worst of it and the police are all very congenial but I shall be very glad when it is over. If they need this amount of security we have A lOT of islands around the UK, and a fair few owned by UK billionaires in warmer climes - next time they can go there.:AA/give up smoking (done)0

Living where you are it is probably much more of a possibility than here in Blighty. Though once things go south I suspect that it could become a problem here as well. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

Thank you for telling us what its like there.
My sympathies with everyone trying to go about their normal daily business with that blimmin' nato lot there. Admits that if I lived there I'd damn soon learn the Welsh National Anthem and be walking past them all singing it at the top of my voice.0 -
Further thoughts on that nato conference being:
- Is anyone finding they are going to lose income because of these restrictions (eg shopkeepers unable to open shops as normal, etc) and, if so, is compensation being paid by nato for this loss of income?
(starting to feel steam coming out of ears on your behalf...one of my reasons for moving to Wales was because I'm British (ie English in my case), not European iyswim)
Would love the thought of sending up loads of the enormous tractors we have round here, manned by farmers ready to burst into a rendition of the Anthem at them (coming from here...it would be in Welsh).0 -
I think it's one of those situations where you have to'go with the flow' because you just cannot do anything to change it. It's difficult when it disrupts peoples lives so much and for so long as well as the unease that must be felt by anyone living/working in the area that is being used by NATO. It's obviously necessary though as part of strategy to limit terrorism and the influence of terrorist groups and that is for the universal good not just for the UK but the rest of the world too particularly those poor people who are in Iraq/Syria and being subjected to the atrocities that the terrorist organisations are committing against them. It's an inconvenience for many here but life or death for many more elsewhere so I guess it's something that is sorely needed.0
