I feel sorry for anyone whose life is disrupted by the conference. Why on earth can't they host it somewhere safe where there is no risk of any terrorist attacks such as Rockall?
It'd be a very small conference..........:rotfl:

It's not a lot different from what happened with the Tour de France.
I managed to get out to one small city en route before they closed down for the day (by about 8am) and then had to wait until the route re-opened at 8pm.
On the bus back there was a rather drunk guy who had met a girl at a wedding the previous day, gone back to her's for the night and then tried to call a taxi to take him into work in the morning. Furthest they could take him was the local ring road!
Now had he engaged his brain, he might have been able to get transport north east and double back into his home town but the lock-down on the road between the two towns was total for those few hours. There was NO transport on that route the following day because the bus company could not get enough staff into their depot for 6am so the city was completely cut off from the south.
Personally if I had been the company I would have done something to make it work as there was a mint to be made. I would have even run alternative bus routes between the south and the ring road.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
The idea of passing as a matron or pillar of the community has just made me spit my wine everywhere! :rotfl: OK when I have to i can pull off the professional lawyer look but matron  . I was thinking more jeans, sweatshirt with nothing rude on the front and trainers, OK not what is expected in a credit union but they will be lucky to be open. All the schools are closed for the duration of the conference , bus services restricted and quite a few other shops and offices are shut. The banks and McD,s may be shut as there are rumours they will be targeted by anti capitalists or anyone else with a grudge against them. It may all be an anti climax and nothing happen. The thought of staying in the centre leaves me cold, unless I sofa surf on a friends sofa as he lives in the centre. If it is kicking off I can grab my get home bag from the boot and head for the hills!! Or fields or canal whatever is easier. Alternatively the office would be OK in a pinch, especially if the Indian restaurant close by is open! I could stick the heater on in my office, order in curry and wine, cuddle down in the blankets a co worker keeps on her chair, watch whatever I fancy on the internet and as in Shaun of the Dead, wait for it all to blow over! :rotfl: i will keep you posted!

Well, the good news is that the storms have not arrived yet, despite the black sky and low clouds...the bad news is that we are at danger level now from them...dire warnings keep coming from the Greek weather service as well as the Italian one. Planning to unplug everything before I go to bed (unless they arrive earlier) and close all the storm shutters against the wind that is sure to accompany them.
I have no doubt the first earth shattering thunder will arrive just as I drop off to sleep and then I will be awake most of the night. I find it very hard to get back to sleep once I wake up.
The car goes into the garage early tomorrow and I was going to ride the scooter in so we could use that to get home. That is out of the question now so my other half is taking it in and waiting for it in the cafe over the road, no matter how long it takes.
Meanwhile I have warned my friend who is flying back from Santorini at 5.30am that she should have an extra book to read and some snacks as she may be delayed. I did not tell her about the storm warnings....
I can fully understand the grey lady look.... I did exactly that when I had to go through the demonstrations in Thailand to get our emergency travel documents. Tidy but blending in as much as I could. When I got to the embassy to get the documents they told me I had to wait for three hours and I could not wait there (it was full of empty seats). They made me go back into the demonstrations so I thought it out and went to a luxury spa on a back street and had an aromatherapy massage to kill the time till I went back. Wise move. By the time I left I was ready to face anything, but it took me six hours to get home on what was usually a one hour journey. I am glad we are back home in Greece.0 -
Well, some S has been hitting the F here at The Towers with one of the neighbours going off the deep end and kicking off with other neighbours. The local plod were summoned and, after a scuffle, have taken him away to the cop shop.
Actually, once he'd gone, it was quite sociable, as I was outside chatting to two of my nearest neighbours. Nothing like a little bonding over a mini-crisis. It was pretty small beer by our standards in that nothing was broken (doors, windows, noses, all intact) and it only took 4 officers to subdue the miscreant.
Pah! When I were a lass, we 'ad proper rucktions at The Towers. Blood on the stairs, CSI everywhere and TV crews and all sorts. Half-naked drug-crazed people carted off in handcuffs screaming like banshees. Doors being boarded up in the middle of the night and sniffer dogs hunting knifemen across the walkways.............
You just can't get the staff..........Still, pretty entertaining for a Monday evening.Just think, some poor beggars have to have TV to get the level of entertainment which comes free with my rent.

I could make some comment about TSHTF.....
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/11068883/Japan-prepares-for-loo-paper-shortage.htmlIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/11068883/Japan-prepares-for-loo-paper-shortage.htmlIt's a valid point. I'm well above the one-month's worth emergency supply of TP. Which part(s) of the UK are responsible for supplying the rest of us with this essential product? Are they prone to flooding, f'rinstance? I think we should be told.
Rushes off anxiously to count her loo rolls..........
