For the second time this summer I have found slugs crawling round on my kitchen floor. Last night there were two of them about 3" long.
This also happened about 9 years ago when I first moved in here, and I went round with some sealant outside trying to seal any little holes. Now, okay, I guess some more holes may have appeared since then, and I will be going out to have a look later, but why on earth would slugs want to come in a house?
There are no leafy vegetables lying around indoors. I'd have thought slugs would be far happier outside.
I have the same problem and have wondered the same thing about why they would want to come indoors.
I went round the door frame last year and sealed it up -or so I thought-it was alright for about 2 weeks then they started coming in again. I am going to have another go when my two sons have gone back to uni.
Last night I made the mistake of leaving a jacket on the basket near the door and there are slug trails all across it now. I have had to put it in the wash.0 -
Oh my goodness!!! Our weather station had stopped working so He Who Knows has treated himself to another one and was dismantling the old station which is mounted on a pole attached to the back fence when he said oh look there's the cause of the problem FALSE WIDOW SPIDER of large proportions (Yes I do know what they look like) which was quickly despatched, then he was going to mount the other one on the pole which is hollow metal and guess what,' I can't see right down it' said a little voice, 'I'll just put the pressure hose through it', cue two more enormous spiders scuttling across the patio. We did the stomp and they are now flat, bloomin eck! I don't panic easily but 3, is 3 too many!!! I just wonder how many more are lurking in the area? Oh er lummy Missis, I dosen't likes it at all!!!0

Oh, I don't mind spiders being outside. Just don't like creepy crawlies invading my home.
Though I do put up with the spider that lives in my downstairs loo, as he eats the silverfish.0 -
I don't mind most of them but these bite!!!0

There are definitely changes in the weather too. I have seen leaves on the ground a couple of weeks now, and the feeling in the air as if it were Autumn a bout a week now. I put the electric blanket on the bed again and have washed the summer quilt and have it drying over the clothes horse in the hall to dry. I put the new one on the bed last night as well. The new one is lovely. I am going to bake a quiche for the first time later today so hopefully it turns out well
The grass was cut this week and the weeding all done too. Thinking about going through our woollens and gloves etc to see if we are okay for them. Hope you all have a good Bank holiday weekend xx

I think creepy crawlies tend to head for indoors when bad weather is on its way, rather like the way our two cats migrate to the bedrooms instead of prowling around their outdoor kingdom, or, in the case of the younger cat, indulging in a spot of mindless slaughter after breakfast.
So, batten down your hatches! One life - your life - live it!0 -
Just spotted this at Winfields of Haslingdon.
Roast Master Gas Hob & Oven
Now that's what I call an emergency gas stove.
£200 at Winfields, but available about £20 cheaper online.
On the subject of emergency equipment and supplies, the gas canisters, for the flat single burner stoves, are in £world, sold singly, making them the same price per canister, as B&M Bargains are selling them for.
Also, they've recently opened a Home Bargains store, in my local town centre, so I popped in this morning.
Picked up a 20L solar camping shower for £2-99.
Also got a tray of 24 x 330ml cans of fizzy Vimto for £6.
That's just 25p per can.
BTW. I was going to post a picture of a lady using the camping shower, but then I realised that, nobody on this thread would be interested in seeing a young lady taking a shower outdoors, in a bikini.0 -
 Heads-up, peeps. Bardarbunga volcano in Iceland has now started to erupt..............at least I have a hope in hell of pronouncing this one, as opposed to Eyja-thingummy from 2010.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

thanks for the heads up GQ... I know we have been through the potential problems... but if we can just go through them again ( sorry I really have had my head in shed the last few weeks) and what would be the best things to have in..
Travel disruption re- flying wouldn't effect us as in travelling etc, but would this effect certain foods etcWork to live= not live to work0 -
At the moment it's sub-glacial but there's been another huge earthquake, the strongest yet at 4.7, as well as a lot of little ones which they've been having for days. This is a very big volcano, much much bigger than Eyja, and if the magma gets to the point where it melts the glacier or it breaks through and puts up a big ash-plume.............
Gawdelp the Icelandic people if that glacier starts to melt and floods them.
The experts don't know what it'll do next is what I'm getting from my reading, but let's hope that it doesn't blow big time.
Mind you, if we end up with European air-space closed down, with people stuck all over the shop, I fully-expect TPTB to use the drama as a shield to hide something bad behind.
