The fact that so many people are too afraid to forage means that there are more for the rest of us and for the wildlife.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
  • When it comes to foraging I think!!!!! lots of people don't!!!

You need to be sure you KNOW what you're doing though and most people aren't sure so they automatically think that you'll poison yourself by picking from the wild. It's just a sign of the times and the disconnect from reality that has become the norm. The silliest thing I ever saw was when my DD bought me a 'Survival' weekend course and I was the oldest person there, there were 3 other women but all late twenties and all the men were dressed as Rambo and comparing the size of thier knives! We had a slow day and when the instructor came to tell us to collect our firewood he fell over the big pile I'd already collected and got huffy. In the evening he took us on a walk and was asking what type of tree we were standing under and the numpties on the course couldn't even recognise a crab apple or an oak. I left and phoned home for my own ET to come and collect me, totally daft!!! I suppose they might have been able to tell eventually but he picked some of the apples and they actually tried to eat them, Eughhhh!!!
  • So the instructor didn't have an idea did he mrslurchwalker?!

while appreciate there are jingoistic aspects to modern conflicts, 1st world war soldiers joined for honour..... commentators of the time and later historians remarked...."lions led by donkeys".... watching john oliver last night ... he bemoaned the latest news agencies efforts to commercially survive.... something called native advertising that presents an informative article (mostly online) but is an advertisement.....apparently independant/impartiality do not matter anymore ... i.e 10 ways to live longer....will introduce a wonder pill/supplement at some point.... keep an eye out

    I've been Money Tipped!
Found an interesting program on 4OD called Blackout. Its a docu - drama about a week in the UK without electricity, filmed by a variety of people (actors) using their mobile phones. Its very interesting - looks at a variety of situations, access to money, water, government emergency plans . . .

    Def worth a watch.

Any other ideas for this type of program?

(Not sure about that prepper series - seems a bit too extreme and edited to be "HAHAHA spot the silly people" for my liking)

    Latest update from Reality Weather

TODAY'S CHART - chance of some very heavy & thundery downpours in Irish midlands and northeast. Don't be surprised to see one pop up just about any where in Ireland or western / central Britain. Plenty more unsettled weather on the way for the week with more rain, showers and thunderstorms affecting many ares. Some good drier periods too. Extra- tropical trouble could be brewing for the weekend as Hurricane Bertha's remnants will be hightailing it across the Atlantic towards the UK & Ireland after being picked up by the Jet Stream;- could bring quite a lot of rain and potentially, some very strong winds. We will be watching it and will update on it soon.

We certainly got it - the rain was fierce! Hit where I live about 11 last night, a few other places got it rough - Magherafelt in Mid Ulster got a bit of flooding and Letterkenny in Donegal had the hospital flodded, again...

Glad the updates on the weather are useful to some on here.....the latest one is for Friday and the weekend (Incidentally, it does not include any impact that the remains of Bertha may have....if it does catch the UK it will add it's own problems to this forecast )

Meanwhile it is very hot here and sunny but FEELS stormy to me.... there is a lot of lightning showing just over on mainland Greece so very close to us now. Here is a link to the map, the lightning shows 5 seconds after striking, I find the map fascinating!

Showers, locally heavy and thundery have developed across parts of Northern England and Yorkshire & Lincolnshire. There is a risk of further downpours developing throughout the remainder of the day.
There is a chance of thundery downpours developing across southern areas, although the risk is relatively low. Any thundery downpours that do develop will bring the risk of torrential rain, lightning and hail.

  • I do wish this weather would make its mind up.

First thing this morning, it was dry and sunny, then it was raining heavily.

Now it's sunny, but with heavy clouds heading this way.

As for Buggalugs, she's outside, demonstrating she's still c*ck of the street, by laying on the pavement, cleaning herself, showing complete contempt for the other cats in the street.
