I don't know if you guys read this column in the Mail at all, about the funny things children say. Friday's letter really tickled me, and I thought you guys might enjoy it:I am seriously ill and so we had been preparing my five-year-old niece for the fact that I may not be around for much longer.
One day she said to me: 'Aunty, when you go to Heaven, will you take your wheelchair with you?'
'Oh, no,' I replied. 'When I go to Heaven I will be able to walk again. I'll also be able to run and jump and skip, and I won't be in pain any more.'
Her reply? 'Well, why don't you go now?'0 -

Does she want a job at Dignitas or be in charge of the Tory NHS policy? It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Hi thanks for all the feedback re the warnings about upcoming weather events. I will keep you all informed. I am still working on the European sites translating real time information and sharing warnings with other countries. I love it.
I have been missing on the internet as I had a severe allergic reaction to a small glass of Bailey's! I had the reaction, it went off, then came back much worse two days later. I spent seven hours in the accident and emergency (being treated, I only waited about thirty seconds after I staggered in ). I had umpteen drips, cortisol and various other potent things pumped into me and I am still recovering a week later.
I thought this site might fascinate a few of you, it is updated all the time and shows you where storms are over Europe and where the lightning is striking at the moment. (it has a delay of a few seconds).

Austria, Germany, Poland and France have been getting horrendous storms and flooding with huge hail. Here in Greece and Italy we have had storms with tornadoes and water spouts. There were five the other day in Corfu alone. The storms are called super cell storms and are becoming much more common. They can be very dangerous. The signs are that they are going to continue in Europe and the UK could well be in for them as well. This autumn and winter are going to be very exciting weather wise , not to mention for us preppers....you may well get a chance to try out your gag bags.....“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
I see we are drawing the whole 2GW maximum, through the French Inter-connector.0

Evening everyone. I'm still off work for at least another 10 days
Only good thing is I've read so many blogs and posts that I've really got my mojo back for preparing.
The house is filled with the aroma of a cake in the oven at the moment, and it got me thinking about tinned fruit, meat ect. Does anyone know a site with some good recipes for using tinned food?0 -

Yeah, you have to wonder what Kent will do if that connector gets broken, or more likely the thyristors go pop one day.
(Due to the large distance causing losses on an ac cable, the ac electricity from France is rectified to dc before connecting to the cable. Then when it gets here, it is turned back to ac using very high power electronic switches called thyristors.)0 -

'Fraid that's me; have just put the washer and the pooter on. Sorry, folks.
Have been allotmenteering for hours, have just come back and bathed my mucky self and slung the clothes plus other stuff into the washer. Have had a busy and productive day and have rendered a lot of weeds homeless (bless). Have also had the water butt by the shed drained down, the water on the plants and the silt swilled out of the bottom. It's dripping dry right now.
It'd become a tad urgent as the wooden stand it was on, although heavy duty, had sagged sideways and was about to go over. Had lasted 6 years. It's replacement will be a few slabs piled up with a couple of bits of treated 3 x 3 from the wood cache at Mum's so that the plastic butt isn't in direct contact with the concrete, which can cause the plastic to degrade. That's for a few weeks in the future, but we gardeners have to play the long game.A lovely lady up the lotties has gifted me with two v. large courgettes and some runner beans - mine are only just coming onto flower. I am very happy about all this, naturally. May the sun shine on her endeavours.
I have also been domestically dutiful and soda-crystalled-and-boiling-watered the plug holes. You can judge the quality of a person's housekeeping by their plugholes, don'tchaknow? Jesting aside, blockages seldom happen with no warning, the wastes typically run slow for some time first, so get your fix in before it becomes an emergency.

It's finally cooling down (LR is at 71.2f and falling), and it's just beginning to rain.
The staircase is still like an oven though.0 -
Would it be hot enough to bake or possibly dehydrate something in the staircase? We need to think of alternative ways of doing things, after all.
