Thanks, greenbee, I was wracking my brains to think what the hell we were doing with all that power overnight - such a blend of knowledgable people on this thread, there's always something new to learn.
I have read about the folks tasked with managing demand using the TV schedules to anticipate the tea and p breaks, as most of us are fairly predictable in our habits. My kettle is on the gas stove (with the battery-powered ignition) but I have an old leccy kettle stored for a gas-down but leccy-up scenario.
I guess prepping is thinking about redundancies in the stuff we use every day, the old two is one and one is none. Such as the butane gas stove is the back-up to the proper stove, and the electric kettle is the back-up to the gas stove kettle, and the kelly kettle is the no-power back-up to either. I'd love to have a garden and would definately be looking at an outdoor cooking option if I had one, but that's for another version of my life.I do have a dinky BBQ up on the allotmentino.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

A quick heads up for the farmers amongst us
Wilko have a sale on pots, seeds, frames for running beanz, fruit cages, mini greenhouses, gravel trays, tomato houses and lots more.
The fruit cage was £26 and we got one for £4.75 the running beanz frame was £29 and we got it for £3.75
4 small pots were 25p, 5 medium pots were 60p
gravel trays were 25p and lots more treasures :cool:Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I have so many powercuts here GQ that Memory Girl made me a thermal bag... so with that and the camping stove I can cope.
We have no mains gas (oil heating), and our sewage system is electricity dependent...
I do have a fireplace, with a jetmaster that needs replacing with a stove as soon as I can afford it!0 -

Its specs say it runs at 3,600 rpm.
I'm not sure a 60hz generator is the ideal choice, for the UK.
I wondered if one of these would at least run a freezer (or two).
A 'gooogle" search doesn't find particularly good reviews though.0
