Miner's grandaughter here, grew up in a mining village in Durham during the 80's strikes and I very nearly, very nearly, adopted the view that striking serves no purpose than to disrupt those of innocent people in my early 20's. I was working in education at the time and coaxed into not striking.
It isn't until my 30's where I have really looked into what unions did for us working class folk - they fought for mine and every body else's right for that 15 minute tea break. Now that is progress and a progress that my new zero hours contract (some days I love it's flexibility, other days I loathe it's 'on call' feel) stamps it's mucky fat feet all over.

the bomb squad have been at my grand daughters primary school, nato is having a summit near newport and any sensitive installations are at risk and also any public buildings near them. Her local area is at risk of the hoards anyway. I am having her and her mum to stay, well away for those days. All the parents are very fearful, they were anyway re nato but being primed for potential bombs :eek:

These are almost certainly from the root stock not the grafted plum variety.

yes they are still available in most garden centres/diy stores aswell as some cheap shops, we use it alot xOne day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

You don't need hormone rooting powder with cuttings (or prunings!) from currant bushes; just cut them off with a little "heel" and pop them straight into the ground, making sure the earth around them is tamped down firmly. received my mini sawyer bottle today,,,, didnt buy extra pouches....tested seems to be working..... prompted me to buy more tinned preps 3days worth tin of stewed steak , tin of spuds , tin of peas x 3.... nice week off work to relax, party saturday on the banks of the ship canal BIL 50th sister lives near barton bridge , her garden backs on to canal... off to see dad now a good 20 min walk.....take care

FUDDLE there is a generic cucumber salad that is made all over scandinavia that I've made since childhood as my dad used to make it the way his mum did
1 large cucumber(peeled and sliced)
a bunch of fresh dill (stalks removed and chopped fine)
4 tablespoons of white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
fresh ground black pepper
put everything into a bowl give it a good stir and leave in a cool place for 2 hours.
I'd serve this with a selection of cold meats like salami for a starter with some rye bread.
SNITTER baby open sandwiches made from bite sized pieces of bread(rye, sourdough,etc) and topped with slices of egg and tomato, or prawns on lettuce with mayonnaise, ham with sliced peach, blue cheese with sliced radishes.
GRAVADLAX on rye crispbreads with dill mustard sauce
all easy to do and the kids will like them, Lyn xxx.
I've also got a no-cook traditional swedish cake recipe for Choco Balls that is so scrummy you'd love them, if you would like it.0
