That looks a good recipe for the cider...I might just make some to offer to guests over the winter...it would be lovely hot with cinnamon added in the cold winter months. I will have to wait for it to cool down here first though, don't want it fermenting too fast and blowing up my kitchen.
It is a tradition here to drink ginger beer in the winter months. I used to buy it direct from the factory down the road but it was lethal if it was warm outside. We used to lose half the crate due to the bottles exploding. They have now changed the bottles to the high pressure plastic ones. I did think of making a ginger beer plant for the winter...it wouldn't half go nice in my home made gluten free fruit loaf!
I read the article about the lumpy veg with interest as all veg here is lumpy and bumpy. Most of them are grown locally and organically so they come out all shapes and sizes. My visitor was disappointed as she had been to the market and supermarket and could not find any that were marked ''organic''.......till I pointed out they all were that were locally grown, so no point in putting that label on them!
Still hot here, still got the politicians arguing and still dreading the new taxes and cuts being introduced, but you just have to get on with it and do your best don't you?
OH is laid up in bed with his back playing up again...for the third time in five weeks...he slipped 3 discs many years ago in the Navy and it just gives up now and again. Rest and anti inflammatory capsules are the answer most times. He has an appointment for acupuncture next week and to see the doctor again.
Meanwhile I am trying to get my head around prep items and getting the house ready for the winter...its not easy when it still feels like summer and you have lovely views outside the window....“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. I was pondering the cow pat question when D&DD suggested drying them and putting them in a cupboard - what  You guys are too fast for me today.:rotfl: Wish I had a vegetable related illness all I have is a little pot of baby Kale plants and they are certainly not enough to be a serious infestation
I do have a biscuit tin of de-hydrated veg though. And a huge celery from the market the other day that was so big it attacked me much to the delight of the veggie man.
Hope you all find a cure for the radishes etcClearing the junk to travel light

I love celery but its quite expensive here ! I use the leaves for soups, the sticks for snacks and salads then I plant the base of it in a pot of soil on the windowsill and use the shoots that come up for flavouring . You can also plant large spring onions in a pot and cut off the tops like chives.
Oops sorry.....the veggie talk is infectious!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
I've got lingering courgettes which just doesn't seem to go away but I think it affects your taste buds as they don't seem to taste of anything.
At least the [STRIKE]runs[/STRIKE]runner beans seem to be overIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Morning everyone, I have been MIA for the last few days I slipped outside and put my arms out to save myself and have damaged my shoulder even more. So now my left arm is strapped to my body so I cant move it.
Also damaged my right knee very badly and now use a crutch to get around.
My OH says hes happy I had lots of food in thats one thing he doesnt have to worry about for awhile. As he has to help me do most things also all the housework.
So thank you ladies as I have been reading on here and getting as much as I can in.So we will be okay for quite a few weeks, until I can get back on my feet again.

So glad your prepping has come in useful. Its not the amount of STHTF its just the fact that it happened and you are prepped for your situation, although I think its a pretty big problem you have being one armed and legged and in pain xxClearing the junk to travel light

I don't know about mars bar wine but you can certainly make mars bar vodka - I'm sure that would be very useful when the SHTF. I wouldn't recommend adding chard though.0

Possession I wouldn't recommend adding chard to anything! :rotfl::rotfl:0

Caterina well done for booking your lessons..still haven't booked mine and sadly my next door neighbour who I was going with had a heart attack a few weeks ago  He's recovering well thankfully, and I told him I didn't mean to scare him that badly... trying to think of practical ways to help them going from 2 wages to 1 part time..
