This thread has gone all vegetabley and I feel sick now! _pale__pale__pale_
  • Morning BB - we just chop up any apples we can get and juice them. He who knows takes over from there, they go into demijohns with a carefully calculated amount of sugar and a tad of cider yeast, burble away on the windowsill until they are grown up enough to join the rest in a big fermentation vat. Then they are banished to the shed for a long sentence and stood in the cold for as long as he deems fit. He lets it all clear and then bottles and caps and back to the shed they go. I'm only the apple chopper, and therefore not party to the magic that is cider making!!! Mind you he does let me wash the bottles and equipment when we've been juicing, so I'm not totally left out. How are your SLOES this morning? Cheers Lyn x.
  • SORRY MAR - shall we be very cutting edge and develop a recipe for Mars Bar Wine for you? Cheers Lyn xxx. ( and no mention was made of anything green!)

    Hi all

Welcome Jenniferd, make yourself at home, but be careful as we are suffering from a vegetable outbreak LOL! I am sure you will enjoy the banter.

Still feeling cold-y and sniffly but drugged myself sufficiently to mask the symptoms because today I have my second driving refresher lesson and don't want to miss it.

Have a good, veg-infestation free day, see you later x

Edited to apologise profusely to Mad Arthur for the overuse of the v-word!

Also, re. Useful magazines, I find the Permaculture Magazine very interesting and informative.

    Bye for now x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    LMAO!

But there's fruit as well and cowpats and booze-recipes. A well-rounded thread. In a SHTF situation, booze is a very popular commodity to ease the stresses and strains at home as well as to serve as a trade commodity.

Anyone have the recipe for suicider from the Discworld? Described as being made from apples; well, mostly apples.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I shall hold my head up with pride as a chardlings-sufferer and eat it by the kilo. But I'm never never never gonna let the bu88ger set seed again.

ETA Welcome to the madhouse, Jenniferd.

It looks a brilliant magazine and just my cup of tea. I used to get gardening mags but they didn`t teach me anything new so I cancelled the sub

Dh is out to get loads of big blackberries, he found a good place yesterday. Lol, an easy pud awaits then as I already have crumble made in the freezer

A good tip grandma, re the greens. I too find them a bit too strong in a soup and overpowering other tastes

Am doing a few hot washes today as weather might be ok later. 60 with eco balls and no detergent for towels and another 60 with soap nuts. I was watching the drum go around and the amount of old soap coming out of the towels surprised me

I need to go to the lottie but am dressed and nice and clean so can`t be bothered just now, will go late afternoon for celery, courgettes etc and reading the above re chard,, will start picking now. It`s such an excellent basic crop later for winter
