At least they chose their words more carefully than the MOD once did in the instructions to incoming occupants of service housing. I refer of course to the famous prohibition on unauthorised erections in RAF married quarters :)

I've had an afternoon with little squealies ..... I forget how loud younger kids can be. DS2 is SIX!!!! tomorrow! Blimey it feels like just yesterday I was on here announcing his birth.

Had a young mum in today - teaching her how to make and use a thermal cooking bag. It will really cut down her leccie card spends I am sure. She would like a recipe book - so looking for suggestions of favourite slowcooker type meals I could adapt for her wee gang of Mums.

    Any ideas?

BTW - together we made spag bol - 10 mins on the hob and four hours in the baggie - perfect!!!!

    OOh yoghurt!!!

So ................ small jam jars in a waterbath overnight? Or heat up the milk and snuggle into the bag overnight? Mmmmm!

BTW done rice pudding - it didn't hang around long

    DSCF9370-300x225.jpg

    400ml whole milk
    100g pudding rice
    50g sugar
Half a Can of evaporated milk
    Tablespoon of vanilla extract

Bring everything up to a boil and simmer with the lid on for ten minutes - into the bag for three hours then stir in the rest of the evaporated milk.

DS2 is in LOVE with this one :D

  • VJsMUM we hie from the same part of the world and sound to have had very similar beginnings in life, they breed 'em tough in North Kent don't they petal? Theres nothing like being broke and hungry to toughen you up is there, and growing up with everyone else in the same situation as yourself teaches you a lot about resilience and perseverence doesn't it? Sure made me realise at a very early age that if I wanted anything I'd have to work for it 'cos sure as eggs is eggs no one was going to hand it to me on a plate!!! I think a childhood spent like that teaches you determination and self reliance and motivates you for the rest of your days to keep plodding on with an eye on where you are aiming at in life and not to accept second best, stubborn us Maids of Kent no?

Sheer curiosity prompts me to ask ...

Under what section of a council or HA tenancy agreement might the smoking of weed in itself concern the landlord? I'm struggling to see what happens next if the HO knocks on the door of an otherwise model tenant and forms the opinion himself that the smell from within isn't incense
:) They draw up the tenancy agreement and you either sign or it or you don't.You don't get to craft a pick & mix version to suit whichever criminal activities you enjoy. Cannabis is a lifetstyle choice for some but my neighbour wasn't offering me a toke I could choose or decline; they were causing indoor air pollution with a psychoactive substance, in my own home, without my consent. Whislt I was asleep, for the most part. To the detriment of my well-being.

Our tenancy agreement says no drugs. And the other party sure as heck isn't a model tenant. None of my pot-smoking neighbours are model citizens as weed travels hand-in-glove with anti-social behaviour all across this city. Maybe it's different round your way, who knows?

Have struggled through the workday feeling like something the cat dragged in. Or possibly something the cat hunted, killed, ate and then vomitted on the kitchen floor. Lovely neighbour was just starting to stir as I left for w*rk. Grrr.

Have finished the Thomas Mullen book The Last Town on Earth and very good it was indeed. No spoilers, but I commend it to you. Am now re-reading bits of Last Light before charity-shopping that. Time to leave room for some more tin-hattery on the bookshelves.

I've also just learned something interesting; when you see a crescent moon, if you imagine a ruler resting on the tips of the crescents, it forms a straight line pointing south (in ther northern hemisphere) or north (in the southern hemisphere). And moonrise is approx east and moonset approx west, so you have some rough and ready navigation there.

I just have a £1.99 button compass on my watchband, but it's nice to know the old skool way, too.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
